Police respond to possible armed robbery

Law enforcement report¢ Lawrence Police were dispatched to the parking lot at Checkers Grocery Store, 2300 La., at 3:37 a.m. Friday for a possible armed robbery.A 39-year-old man reported he had been following a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old Lawrence man who allegedly robbed him. The two men, who knew each other, had met earlier in the Checkers parking lot after the suspect had called and asked to borrow money for a hotel room. The two agreed to meet at the Checkers lot where the 39-year-old showed the man his money, which the suspect allegedly grabbed, fleeing the scene in his car.The victim said he followed the suspect and used his vehicle to stop the suspect’s car in the 2400 block of Louisiana. The suspect then exited his car, opened the trunk and walked toward the victim shouting threats. The victim said he believed the suspect had a gun, although he did not see a weapon. Police apprehended and later arrested the man on charges of aggravated assault and criminal threat. The total amount stolen was $22. Burglaries and thefts reported¢ A 32-year-old Lawrence man reported $1,000 in damage to a vehicle in the 2100 block of Silicon Avenue Wednesday.
