More than 20 guns stolen from rural home

¢ The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is looking for leads in the theft of more than $16,000 worth of guns from a home in the 800 section of East 1259 Road. A 57-year-old man who lives there reported more than 20 guns- including target pistols, semiautomatic pistols, shotguns, and rifles – stolen from various parts of the home between 7:15 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sept. 22, but the sheriff’s office didn’t release a report of the case until today.The means of entry to the home is still under investigation.Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe asked anyone with information to call the department at 841-0007 or the anonymous CrimeStoppers hotline at 843-TIPS.¢ In another rural burglary, $2,145 worth of tools and construction equipment were stolen between Sept. 28 and 29 from a home under construction in the 1600 section of North 1500 Road, according to the sheriff’s office.Other crimes:¢ An employee of Jayhawk Food mart, 701 W. 9th St., reported that an unknown person damaged an office door and stole $9,000 cash and $2,000 worth of cigarettes between 2 p.m. Monday and 2 p.m. Tuesday. ¢ A 19-year-old woman living in the 4000 block of Overland Drive was booked into jail at 10:54 p.m. Thursday night for aggravated assault. According to a report, a 49-year-old family member told police he threatened her with a knife or sharp object around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.¢ An unknown person broke a window Monday evening at the Maharishi Enlightenment Center, 2121 Kasold Dr., in a burglary. It caused $500 damage, but nothing was stolen. ¢ A 68-year-old woman says her 1997 Mitsubishi worth $2,000 was stolen Sept. 18 from the 1500 block of Mass.
