Trial has been postponed until January for a Topeka man charged with a fatal shooting early this year outside a downtown night club.Rashawn T. Anderson was due to stand trial starting Nov. 27, but his attorneys say they need more time to receive and to review evidence including photos, videos, and transcripts of roughly two dozen witnesses who gave statements during a formal inquisition before Anderson was charged.”We’re still in the process of receiving materials and evidence in this case,” defense attorney Mark Manna told Judge Paula Martin on Friday during a court hearing.Martin rescheduled a six-day trial for Jan. 22.Anderson, 19, is charged with shooting and killing Robert Earl Williams, 46, early on the morning of Feb. 5 after a hip-hop show let out at The Granada, 1040 Mass. The shooting came after an alcohol-fueled argument that was captured on video outside the club.Other crime news:¢ KU equipment stolen: Thousands of dollars worth of audio-visual and computer equipment has disappeared from unlocked rooms on the Kansas University campus in recent days. Between Oct. 6 and 7, someone entered Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union and stole remote transmitters and remote controls valued at $1,800. Between Oct. 6 and Monday, two Dell desktop computers, valued at $1,210 each, were taken from adjoining, unlocked classrooms in Wescoe Hall.¢Wakarusa drug hearing postponed: A man arrested on suspicion of dealing ecstasy at this year’s Wakarusa Music & Camping Festival made a trip from New York this week for a hearing in Douglas County, where the state was expected to present evidence. But Deputy Dist. Atty. Bob Claus said prosecutors did not yet have lab results on the suspected drugs from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and he asked that the case be postponed. Judge Martin rescheduled the hearing for Jan. 11.The defendant is Joseph P. Beuregard, of Altamont, NY, who was 25 at the time of his arrest. His attorney, Sarah Swain, did not oppose the delay.Drunk-driving wreck:Two people went to the hospital and one went to jail Thursday afternoon after an apparent drunk-driving wreck on Sixth Street east of Eldridge Street. A Silver Jeep Cherokee driven by Pamela A. Wiyninger, 44, Perry, was going west on Sixth in the left lane about 3:40 p.m. when a 1995 dodge Neon driven by Patricio Deaquino-Garcia, 29, Lawrence, made an improper left turn from a private lot in front of her. They collided head-on, and the Jeep was thrown into another westbound vehicle, according to a report.Both Wiyninger and a passenger, Timothy L. Wiyninger, 45, were taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Deaquino-Garcia was taken to jail for DUI, not having a valid driver’s license, and being left of the center line. ¢KU-area burglaries Three laptop computers worth $6,000 total were among the items stolen in a burglary between 2:45 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Thursday from a home in the 900 block of Missouri Street. Three KU students are listed as the victims. Also, a 22-year-old KU student reported his $1,000 laptop computer, wrist watches and other items stolen between 8:50 p.m. Wednesday and 5 a.m. Thursday from the 900 block of Emery Road.-contributed by Eric Weslander.
