Devonte’ Graham after loss to Arizona State: ‘Their guards were just better than us’

Moments after KU’s 95-85 loss to Arizona State — just the 11th at Allen Fieldhouse in the Bill Self-era — senior guard Devonte’ Graham made his thoughts on the performance clear.

“I don’t like losing, period,” said the downtrodden Graham. “At the end of the day, their guards were just better than us.”

Graham finished the game with 19 points, outdone in that area only by junior Lagerald Vick (25 points, 7 rebounds). Still, it was far from a perfect game from the senior, who missed nine shots and committed three of his team’s 16 turnovers, which led to 25 points for the Sun Devils.

Defense was also an issue for the Jayhawks, who allowed the visitors to shoot 57.6 percent from the field in a 58-point second half. After the game, Self called the KU team the softest he’d had since taking over at KU. Graham used similar wording in discussing what KU needs to do moving forward.

“We’ve just got to man up to it,” Graham said, “look at ourselves in the mirror, each and every one of us.”
