From his years of service to our country and the important position he currently holds, he has certainly earned it.” The letter was circulated by Senator Lindsey Graham and signed by Senators Joe Lieberman, John McCain, Norman Coleman, Jim DeMint, Jon Kyl, Charles Grassley, Kit Bond, Bob Corker, Mel Martinez, Richard Burr, Johnny Isakson, Susan Collins, Wayne Allard, Judd Gregg, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Mike Enzi, Saxby Chambliss, Lamar Alexander, Pat Roberts, David Vitter, John Barrasso, Pete Domenici, Sam Brownback, Jeff Sessions, John Cornyn, Olympia Snowe, Sam Brownback, Elizabeth Dole, John Warner, and John Ensign.(LJWorld.com) Vigil honors victims on sixth anniversary of terrorist attacks: Boyda said she was not ready to respond to the specifics of Monday’s testimony of Gen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) said his greatest farm bill concerns are the House-proposed changes in crop insurance. Roberts said the farm bill should provide a safety net for farmers when they lose a crop. “We need to strengthen the crop insurance program, not cut it,” he said. Cutting billions from the crop insurance program as the House farm bill does, he said, will not strengthen the program. “That pretty well kills it out here,” he said of farmers in the High Plains. Roberts also is not keen on the notion of assessing $7.5 billion in taxes on foreign companies based in the U.S.”These are American jobs,” he said. Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R) !(Wichita Business Journal) Tiahrt votes to reduce interest on student loans: U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) voted Monday to adopt the conference report on the College Cost Reduction Act of 2007. The bill would gradually reduce the interest rate for Stafford student loans. It would reduce the loans from 6.8 percent to 3.4 percent over a period of four years. It would also provide increases in Pell Grants. “This legislation will help make higher education more affordable and accessible without raising taxes, and I am pleased to support a measure that will provide expanded opportunities for young people to succeed,” Tiahrt said.
