Boyda: Kansas ‘well-positioned’ under new energy bill

Here are today’s headlines from the Kansas congressional delegation:Rep. Nancy Boyda (D) !(Harris News Service) Boyda seeks aid for energy programs: Preparing Kansas workers for jobs in their state’s burgeoning renewable energy industry was a goal of 2nd District Congresswoman Nancy Boyda in this summer’s energy debate. “Kansas is extremely well positioned with the energy bill,” she said of a new standard set in the energy bill passed by the House in early August. The bill would require that 15 percent of the nation’s electricity generation come from renewable sources by 2020. With such a standard in place, Boyda expects coastal states would turn to farm states like Kansas. “The folks on the coast will have to look to the heartland,” she said Thursday. “They’ll look to Kansas to be the provider of wind energy to meet this renewable energy standard.”Sen. Pat Roberts (R)!(All American Patriots) Statement By New York Governor Spitzer Responding To Call For Limits On Federal SCHIP Program: Senators Charles Grassley and Pat Roberts recently have written public letters to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt, asking the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to deny New York’s application to expand Child Health Plus an expansion that would make certain that every uninsured child in New York has access to affordable health insurance coverage. Granting this expansion is essential to the health and well-being of New York’s children. My proposed expansion of the state’s Child Health Plus insurance program, which received bipartisan support in the New York State Legislature this year, was developed to make sure that every uninsured child in New York State has access to affordable health insurance coverage.Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R) !(Wichita Eagle) Seminar touts tax cuts, less government: Those concerned about high taxes and the intrusive reach of government were encouraged to take their concerns directly to elected officials during a seminar Saturday in Wichita. Nearly 180 people crowded into a meeting room at the Best Western Airport Inn for a message about how lower taxes and limited government make economic sense. They heard a keynote address by U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, and they rubbed shoulders with more than a dozen elected officials from Wichita and around the state. “We’re going to talk about the issues, and how grassroots participation matters,” said Alan Cobb, director of the Kansas chapter of Americans for Prosperity.
