Wrapping up GOP convention week…If Sen. Sam Brownback wasn’t already a star among religious conservatives nationally before this week, it’s apparent he is now. The Kansan, it appears, attended — and was a featured speaker at — just about every notable function in New York this week that linked faith and politics.The Los Angeles Times describes Brownback’s pitch to an pro-life crowd: “If I could ask one thing of you this election cycle,” Kansas Republican Sen. Sam Brownback told the crowd, “it is to get George W. Bush reelected. To win this country, we’ve got to get more votes in the Senate and George W. Bush back in office. “And we need your prayers. Pray, pray, pray. You move the hand of God.”Brownback also spoke to a gathering of Jewish voters:“You represent a set of views and values that are beautiful, that are courageous and that are right for mankind,” Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) told Orthodox leaders at a Bush/Cheney meeting for observant Jews Tuesday. “We want you as part of this party.”He impressed Mark Luterman, who kept a convention diary for Baltimore Jewish Times.com“I had the unique opportunity to attend a briefing on the Jewish community with guest speaker Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.). “Like most other senators, he is a staunch supporter of Israel and of the Jewish community. He spoke about his support of a security fence and believes that we continue to ‘keep after Iran.'”Lastly, I was captivated by his stance on Jerusalem. ‘Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. It is not negotiable. Our embassy should be located there.'”Brownback also spoke to Catholics:“Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, said, “’I ask you to talk to 10 people a day” about moral issues. ‘This is about life.
