Facing the nation

U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts appeared Sunday on CBS’ “Face The Nation” in his ongoing effort to push an intelligence reform bill through Congress, as well as to comment on continuing violence in Iraq.He said Iraqis should continue with plans to hold elections Jan. 30, despite the wave of bloodshed there.Roberts said: “If you postpone it, that sends a signal all throughout the world and then you simply wait and the Sunnis will simply wait until the Americans leave. They will postpone and postpone and also postpone.”On intelligence reform, Roberts reported to a series of intelligence failures in recent years – including the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and the inability to prevent 9/11.”To say that status quo is fine is beyond me,” Roberts said. “If it doesn’t pass this next week, we will have to start over as of the next session because it has to happen.”Other links:Pat Roberts links Democrats, Republicans say spy bill would get OK Iraqi president pushes for elections in JanuarySam Brownback links Abortion foes excited at Senate’s GOP shift When an American Senator Cried for the Children of WarTodd Tiahrt links Officials play waiting game with Boeing WichitaHow to contact As always, you can find information to contact members of the Kansas congressional delegation here.
