Boris and Natasha Come to Aid of John and Sarah

http://media.lawrence.com/img/blogs/e... wonderfully wacky cartoon comes from Bonny Fleming and Matthew Scholz and is used with their permission. Bonny is from Rapid City, SD and Matthew is from Knoxville, TN.And, we can thank (or blame) the internets for their inspired humor. This note from Bonny: Occasionally we use yahoo to chat back and forth: somehow in the conversation yesterday talking about Palin, I mentioned being scared of her: he said "as long as your not a moose you have nothing to worry about" then we both went off on the tangent together and the idea was born.Great stuff and thanks!Todd Epp Kansas Watchhttp://kswatch.squarespace.com

Len Dawson, QB and Broadcasting Legend

http://media.lawrence.com/img/blogs/e... Line Communications (http://bottomlinecom.com/currentnews/mooredawsonmilestone.html) has a nice story today about Len Dawson and Larry Moore being together at KMBC-TV in Kansas City since 1968.Len Dawson is one of my childhood idols. He was cool under pressure at the helm of the Chiefs. The guy could play. But what is also remarkable about Len is that is he probably as good or better of a broadcaster as he was an NFL Hall of Fame QB. He is unflappable on TV with great presence. As a radio broadcaster doing Chiefs games, he is knowledgeable, direct, and honest.Congratulations Len Dawson! You're still my idol!Todd EppKansas Watch http://kswatch.squarespace.com

I Guess I Didn’t Catch Sarah Palin on Northern Exposure—Or Did I?

http://media.lawrence.com/img/blogs/e... used to watch the CBS Alaskan-set dramedy Northern Exposure all the time in the 1990s.I loved its depiction of small town life peopled with unique and quirky characters. However, I guess I missed the episodes with Sarah Palin as mayor of Cicely, AK.Or maybe Shelly, the former beauty queen, was actually based on Gov. Palin's character? Think about it.Nonetheless, it does appear Gov. Palin did end up marrying Chris Stevens.Who knew!

How About a Kansas Blogger Meet Up August 29th in Topeka?

I am planning to be in Topeka on August 29th (the Friday before Labor Day) for a meeting. If any of my fellow Kansas bloggers would like to meet up (or really dedicated readers or fellow political junkies), let me know at epplaw(at)gmail(dot)com and let's see if we can set up something.Perhaps we could meet for coffee or at Washburn or at some cool new Topeka hangout and talk blogging and politics (or Chiefs, KU, or KSU football, for that matter). Let me know! I look forward to meeting you.

Meanwhile, McCain Channels Captain Queeg

http://media.lawrence.com/img/blogs/e... think Sen. John McCain has finally lost it.While Sen. Barack Obama has been overseas tearing up crowds, looking Presidential, and making utterly reasonable foreign policy announcements, Sen. McCain has been blathering on about the "success" of "The Surge" in Iraq, mumbling in Captain Queeg-like incoherence about Sen. Obama missing The Surge and how McCain was for The Surge before The Surge was a twinkle in Pres. Bush's eye, and otherwise carrying on about The Surge while the Iraqs have politely told us to GET THE HELL OUT OF OUR COUNTRY--PLEASE!So, I've taken Humphrey Bogart's famous solioquy from The Caine Mutiny, re-written it, and recast Capt. Queeg as Sen. McCain. Captain Queeg: Ahh, but The Surge that's... that's where I had Obama. He laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a duplicate key to the Iraq maproom DID exist, and I'd have produced that key if they hadn't of pulled McCain out of action. I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow Democrats...For more on Kansas politics, read Kansas Watch at http://kswatch.squarespace.com
