Abstinence Education Fails the Palin Household
From the Huffington Post:
Sarah Palin's 17-year-old , unmarried daughter is five months pregnant, the campaign has announced. Hoping to quell internet rumors about about her youngest son, Palin released the news about her daughter Bristol earlier today.
A statement released by the campaign said that Bristol Palin will keep her baby and marry the child's father. Bristol Palin is five months pregnant, and the baby is due in late December.
Can you imagine the Rightwingers' outcry if this were Barack Obama's 17 year old unmarried daughter?

The story has broken and we now know which version of “Babygate” is true. Palin's unwed 17-year old daughter is pregnant.
Palin, who arrived in St. Paul today to accept the Republican nomination for vice president, sent out a joint statement with her husband, Todd.
“Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned,” they said. “We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates,” the Palin family statement concluded.
This confirms three very important things:
Trig is Palin's baby, and the strange strange circumstances of his birth (delivering a speech in Texas while in labor, and taking the prolonged two-pronged commercial airline flight during a high-risk pregnancy without notifying the flight crew, then driving past two hospitals in Anchorage to deliver in a facility an hour drive away with no neonatal ICU) are apparently true. Todd Palin's reason for making those potentially life and death decisions about his wife and unborn son? “You can't have a fish-picker from Texas.”
The fact that Palin had a 16-year old who got pregnant out of wedlock was presumably unknown by the McCain people. After all, he only met her twice, and probably never met any of her children. And it was obviously too much of a bother to vet the candidate and at the very least know in advance what kind of sensational and unwanted headlines might follow. AND, Palin didn't volunteer this information.
Our Republican Vice Presidential candidate is a person of questionable judgment. I don't think there are many out there who would disagree with this statement at this point.
So, in the first three days, she's lied about saying “Thanks but no thanks” on the bridge to nowhere, and withheld information from the campaign she's supposedly trying to help, that could be devastating to McCain. At the very least, it sure doesn't help. What's next?
As I said before, this may be the tip of our Alaskan iceberg. There are 'gates' a-plenty out there that are just waiting for some pretty basic investigation to reveal their secrets.

Yeah, there you go again, you gunkie. You want to argue decency. Consider this:
John McCain made this odious joke about Chelsea Clinton back in '98.
Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.”
Sen. John McCain, speaking to a Republican dinner, June 1998.
In one word, the joke is downright crude, and certainly not presidential. McCain's two-liner conveys some interesting insights into what he considers humorous (lesbianism, a young woman's physical appearance), particularly since it was delivered to a Republican crowd. Remember, this is the party that champions pro-family values.
McCain's lapse in judgment is a significant clue into aspects of his “character,” and thus relevant to the voting public.
You want to talk character, Asbestos. Bring it On.

McCain and Sarah and Todd Palin campaigning in Washington, Pennsylvania.
st. paul, Minnesota (CNN) - A senior adviser to the McCain campaign confirmed Monday that Todd Palin, husband to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 1984.
“Yes, 24 years ago he had a DWI,” senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt told reporters in St. Paul.
Schmidt was asked if he was worried about the news, and replied, “I was not.”
The story was first reported by David Brody, a CNN contributor and Christian Broadcasting Network News Senior National Correspondent

More sexist responses to the Palin appointment, but any criticism of Obama is default racist.
He has no experience, and she does. She is facing familial problems and he has yes to go through them, and “besides they are black” and we are afraid of them (in their words).
I think the wheels are going to come off this thing, and the Press and MSM are going to have a fit. But the Obama supporters will turn full bore militant.

The whole “experience” debate is silly. Under our system of government, there is only one job that gives you both executive and foreign policy experience, and that's the one McCain and Obama are running for. Nevertheless, it's a hardy perennial: If your opponent is a governor, you accuse him of lacking foreign policy experience. If he or she is a member of Congress, you say this person has never run anything. And if, by chance, your opponent has done both, you say that he or she is a “professional politician.” When Republicans aren't complaining about someone's lack of experience, they are calling for term limits.
That's why the important point about Palin's lack of experience isn't about Palin. It's about McCain. And the question is not how his choice of Palin might complicate his ability to use the “experience” issue or whether he will have to drop experience as an issue. It's not about the proper role of experience as an issue. It's not about experience at all. It's about honesty. The question should be whether McCain — and all the other Republicans who have been going on for months about Obama's dangerous lack of foreign policy experience — ever meant a word of it. And the answer is apparently not. Many conservative pundits woke up this morning fully prepared to harp on Obama's alleged lack of experience for months more. Now they face the choice of either executing a Communist-style U-turn (“Experience? Feh! Who needs it?”) or trying to keep a straight face while touting the importance of having been mayor of a town of 9,000 if you later find yourself president of a nation of 300 million.
We all know that modern political campaigns choose their issues from the cafeteria line, after market-testing them and then having them professionally framed. Rarely, though, are we offered such a clear and unarguable example. How could anyone truly believe that Barack Obama's background and job history are inadequate experience for a president and simultaneously believe that Sarah Palin's background and job history are adequate? It's possible to believe one or the other. But both? Simply not possible. John McCain has been — what's the word? — lying. And so have all the pundits who rushed to defend McCain's choice.
This is especially damning to McCain because his case for himself (besides not being Obama, a standard under which many of us might qualify) has rested on his honor and integrity. The North Vietnamese couldn't break him, and neither could the Brahmins of his own party in the Senate. He was a maverick who always told it straight.
So much for that.

Bristol Palin's pregnancy is the result of absentee parenting.
When Palin first ran for governor, she assured the media that her husband Todd would quit his job and watch the kids if she won the election. Sarah won the election, and Todd quit his job.
However, Todd couldn't handle the job of being Mr. Mom and went back to work in the oil fields. Being a busy executive, Sarah had no time for her kids, so the little Palins were shipped out to live with relatives. Bristol fell in with “the wrong crowd” in Juneau, and ended up knocked up.
So much for right-wing “family values.”

Palin, the Alaska governor, announced that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant. McCain's campaign said the announcement was made in order to knock down rumors that Bristol was actually the mother of Palin's fifth child, who was born in April.

And, what can become of this baby… maybe he/she will be a great leader, the President of this country, a brave military soldier who fights on behalf of our country. This baby will have a future.
And, what would be the future of Obama's girls' mistake? Perhaps, a soiled utility room until “it” breathes no more.

Almost as sad is the fact that a personally trying time for the family is now on public display. This is the level to which the political process has degenerated; both sides pointing fingers then crying foul when the finger points at them, usually over crap that's really noone else's business. There are perfectly legitimate conclusions about Sarah Palin that can be drawn from the information that has been revealed in the last 24 hours:
1. she lusts after the VP job, to the detriment of her children
2. McCain did a horrible, horrible, horrible job of vetting her as a candidate
3. Palin is a hypocrite who wishes to dictate whether someone else may have an abortion, yet relies upon taxpayer resources to afford the consequences of her decision.
4. She is a liar who is claiming she told Congress to keep the Bridge to Nowhere money, but clearly sought the funds while campaigning for her job.
There are many more, I am sure, but these are what immediately spring to mind.

“Sen. Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.
Sen. Barack Obama campaigns in Monroe, Michigan, on Monday.
“Let me be as clear as possible,” Obama said. “I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president.”
Obama said reporters should “back off these kinds of stories” and noted that he was born to an 18-year-old mother.
“How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off-limits.”

How critical the liberals seem to be with regard to Bristol Palin who chose to keep her child alive. I guess if she had a liberal-condoned abortion, she would have been lauded.
It's also interesting that the liberals have selective hearing when their leader has asked them to leave the children and families of the candidates alone.

Most of the posts here have concerned pointing out the failings of Ms. Palin & the hypocrisy of her policy positions, all of which are fair game.

If Bristol Palin were just another 17 year old, she would be off limits.
If Bristol's mom hadn't made such a big deal out of being anti-choice and pro-abstinence education, Bristol would be off limits.
But this is the intersection of personal life and policy. Teenagers make all sorts of stupid mistakes. That's part of growing up. But mom—and now the Right—wants it both ways. Apparently out of wedlock kids are ok if Republicans have them. That seems to be the message, not that it is our duty as parents to try to keep our unmarried kids from getting pregnant (or impregnating others) before they are ready to take on the responsibility.
Again, if this were the Obamas, we'd hear about how bad they are as parents. Instead, we hear about how good Mama Palin is. The truth is somewhere inbetween.

No Snotty, most perople were not “pointing out the failings of Ms. Palin”, you were sticking your nose into an issue that has nothing to do with the publicicy, and the blog author's first statment is:
“Sarah Palin's 17-year-old , unmarried daughter is five months pregnant, the campaign has announced. ”
Of sourse this is a hatchet job on a 17 year old that happens to be pregnant, and transferring that to “shame ofn the parents”. Your Ideas of “fair game” are pretty warped, and your judgement is even worse.
ONE more time for the slow Obama supporters:
“Sen.
“How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off-limits.”“
That was your leader,..
now ***knock it off***!!!

Absolutely! This is much worse news and puts the nation in infinitely more peril than Obama's sitting on a committee with Ayers, a self-confessed US terrrorists and bomber who killed at least two Americans on US soil and the fact that Obama was installed in the Illinois senate unchallenged, with the aid of the Democratic Socialist Party, and that Obama and his wife marinated in the hateful, racist and divisive Black Liberation Theology for 20 years and that Obama acquired his house as a favor from a convicted felon and that Obama was mentored in Hawaii by Frank Davis, a Communist.
Yes, Palins' pregnant daughter is a serious threat to America.

I'll just have to request you to put your money where your mouth is, Asbestos, and find any post of mine that is anti-woman.

No, Asbestos. The hatchet job here is by McCain's campaign who is the one that gave the sole reason for Palin having to announce her daughter's pregnancy was to dispel a RUMOR that Trig was Bristol's kid.
Has it occurred to you that there were many ways to dispel that RUMOR that did not involve throwing her daughter out to the wolves?
This was not a supportive parent decision. Both Palin and McCain should be completely ashamed as to how they handled this. They have put a ton of unnecessary stress on this girl at a time in her life where she needs as little as possible. How can this announcement be even remotely in her daughter's best interest? As a parent, you just don't do that.

Start? So then what was all this “hussein,” “he's a Muslim,” “his wife hates whitey,” “he hates women,” “he's a socialist,” stuff if not a start?
Tom, have you ever been on a committee? Did you make sure to do a background check on each person before taking part? After the meetings, did you make sure and hang out and do intimate things with each member that informed who you are as a person? Please, if you aren't talking about Obama but just about people who may have spent some time around Obama, then give it a rest. Remember, if you are doing that, then be sure to point out that McCain still is a friend of George W. Bush.
Regarding Palin and the VP position, here is what she had to say about the position back in Aug. 1, 2008:
“But as for that VP talk all the time, I'll tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day?”

McCain was for experience before he was against it.
Obama / Biden ! Leadership, intelligence, and experience.

That was a smear from a far left bolg, and untrue.
So there was nothing to dispel.
You know about “Rumors” like the one Obama haters repeat about his “muslim” faith? I don't buy that nor do I care about that rumor.
The real question is why would you respond to that ugly “rumor” that was not true?
That is what I mean here, you liberals have lost your way. If there are any “feminists” left in the DNC, I bet they are just PO'ed at people like you and Bea, whom should know better, you are women.

McCain has chastized his followers not to use the “Hussein” garbage, yet so many have continued to do so. Guess McCain is a poor leader, too.

This is blatantly sexist.”
I disagree, but that is beside the point. You McCain apologists claim that I, and others, have gone too far in criticizing the family and child of Ms. Palin. I ask for evidence & all you can show is that I claimed that she, Gov. Sarah Palin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, lusted after the VP position to the detriment of her family. That is ridiculous.
If you put 100 women (and men - don't want to be sexist) in a room and said, you can have the VP nomination, but it means putting your teenaged daughter through an emotionally damaging public trauma, 99 of the 100 people would decline the job. Gov. Palin chose, that's right chose!, not to do so. And this hypocrite wants to impose her religious beliefs on the country!

Or Snotty is being “sexist” calling Palin a “Five tiome baby popper”.
I would watch what and how you say it. Voters femals and older of both genders vote quite consistently, and do not like a party hassling “one of their own”.
So Keep up the work, it has been fun getting you guys to foam at the mouth full throttle, for the entire internet to see. You have given insight to the electorate and America at large into your political positions and your character. It appears as if winning is more important to you than character or truth.
Thank you and your help in electing McCain in 2008.
Good job, and keep alienating women and older voters, we will welcome and defend them.

Really?
“McCain aides said the announcement about the pregnancy of Palin's daughter, Bristol, was aimed at rebutting Internet rumors that Palin's own youngest son, born in April, was actually the daughter's.”
http://cbs3.com/topstories/mccain.pal…
If there was nothing to dispel, then why announce the pregnancy and force a teen mother into the national spotlight? This cannot be healthy for her daughter. Why put the girl under even more stress? She is already a high risk pregnancy due to her age and now with the added extra stress, this just adds to the chance of a pregnancy with complications. I don't think anyone wishes that upon this girl.
I say decisions like this one made by Palin and McCain (just to dispel a rumor) show poor judgment and a lack of long-term thinking. There is no sense that they understand how their actions af
