The Ordeal of Carla Nash
I have taken the pictures off because I was totally confused when I was trying to find pictures of Carla. I want to stress that the text below was written entirely by me.
What is your first thought when you read of a "pet" animal attacking an human? Especially if the animal is a chimp. Now most of us know chimps from movies where they are sweet and adorable. Those who work with them in the movies have different stories to tell. And, it is the baby chimp we are seeing.
An adult chimp weights around 200 pounds and is a very powerful animal. Unlike dogs and cats which have a lengthy history of living with people, chimps don't.
We hear that animals will never attatck without provocation and so should never be punished for behaving according to their nature. I say different, I say there are both people and animals that will attack with no provacation. Humans acting in defense of themselves or others are just behaving according to their nature.
There are those even after knowing the full extent of Charla Nash injuries who would still cry for the chimp. This woman lost both hands, her sight, eyelids, nose, lips and jaw as well as the central facial bones. The chimp litteraly ate her face off. Can you even imagine the horror of such a thing happening to you.
Carla Nash is appearing on Oprah and will be showing her face. I cannot find the words for this. Usually she goes about with her face covered, but decided to show everyone what the results of thinking you have the right to keep a wild animal in your home can be.

no one deserves those severe of injuries so i am not going to say something like “she shouldn't have owned a chimp in the first place”. i am, however, one of those people who thinks that NO wild animal should be kept as a pet. chimps are no different.
bad things can go wrong w/ a dog, cat, horse, or parakeet, but w/ an animal as intelligent AND super strong as a chimp? he could've very easily killed her.

Sorry, Mel, I am going to have to learn to write plainer.
It was not the owner of the chimp who was injured, but a friend who had been called to help calm the chimp down and restrain him.
It was never made clear what the chimp was doing, but the owner was scared at the point when she made the call.
The owner also said that the chimp did not recognize Carla because she had a different hair style and a different so that is why he attacked her.

She bears full responsibility for what happened to her.
I wish it hadn't occurred.

I'm sorry that Carla Nash suffered because of the irresponsibility of the chimp's owner.
Ms. Nash should pursue all legal avenues against the owner. The owner was negligent. Not only should she not have had a wild animal as a pet, she should have called animal control or the police, and not her friend, to help contain it.
Unfortunately, Carla paid for the owner's stupidity.
Unless a breed has been successfully domesticated (dogs, cats, rodents), keeping a wild animal is irresponsible and narcissistic of the owner.

I took another look at the link that snap posted. I just glanced at it before.
How on earth did that happen?
I am stunned and kind of flattered.

They actually got a lot more info out there about what happened you must have missed it.Pretty sure she was giving him was it Prozac, unprescribed, untested in chimps. He was being aggressive and out of control, had bitten someone more than a year previously, it had been reported to authorities.
This is having ramifications on all kinds of public departments that they are saying, based on documented reports, they should have taken prior action to do something, contacted this owner about the animal, but they did nothing. And yes the victim was trying to help, and went into a dangerous situation, not realizing it was drug fueled, she probably thought she was just dealing with the over excitable chimp she had been around before and was trying to help the crotchety old woman that..like all the authorities were ignoring..everyone else was also ignoring?
Sometimes, it doesn't pay to be the one to help the old lady with the cats, just saying. The old lady might turn up dead, and the cats are hungry and spooked, you walk in..and next your family is on Montel, trying to make contact on a Sylvia Browne episode.

Multi, I am now sorry I ever thought about this topic for a blog. I was not interested in every aspect of it.
I would not get over being eaten alive.
It is horrifying to think that today's medicine cannot make her face look better than that.
It is best that she does not remember what happened. That is how the body shields the soul within.
That chimp should never have been in that home. There are many more animals each just as dangerous out there. If someone has to money to pay, someone will accommodate them.

Irish, I didn't see the show, but I'm sure she is just in the beginning stages of them putting her back together.
I saw the photo of her nose and such. I've seen a lot of reconstructive surgeries, lots and lots of bone work can be done, crafted. She will never ever look like she did, not anywhere close to it. Nor will she come out looking like a normal unaffected person.
But, they will probably get her shape-wise looking somewhat normal. That is..if someone donates the time and money, such as surgeons, hospitals. No telling what her insurance situation is or what she will recover monetarily. I'm certain from what I've read, that the bills are already astronomical. I wasn't even aware she was this functioning so I was surprised to see this.
I think an interesting question to ask is..if something like this happened to us..would we have rather died in the attack? To wake up and find ourselves looking at a the rest of our lives….
