prosepector identified the this week's subject on the first try. See the end of this post for the answer
I have to admit that the subject of this week's photo is only "In Plain Sight" if you're in the right place. Many of you won't have visited the location where this picture was taken. But you could have if you wanted to!
Some might say that this is unfair. However, I say , "Yes!!!"
BTW, I was a little slow to identify hujiko as the person who identified the subject last week. Sorry.

The image(s) above is(are) a part of a photo I took somewhere in the area. I'll add additional parts of the picture over the next few days. You are invited to try to guess the subject and location of the photo. I'll notify the first person who correctly identifies the subject or location of the entire photo. That subject or location won't be revealed until later, after the answer is obvious. I suggest that people indicate that their guess is "Final" as opposed to just speculation and limit themselves to one final answer per person.
You can check my twitter account to see when new images are posted, or just check back here. I normally post a new picture each Sunday evening.
Suggestions for interesting, out of the way (or not so out of the way) subjects are welcome.

hujiko identified the subject on the second try, at least part of it. No one got the complete description of the area where the pictures was taken. See the bottom of this post for the answer.
Yes, the first image is very small. People who guess the subject to quickly make me grumpy! Those that have been following from the beginning might remember that I used to be a pleasant, mild mannered guy. Sometimes I still am.
Has it really been almost 2 years? Seems like I just started last week.
backyardwino got me into the area for this week's photo. Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm afraid the subject this week will be too easy, but I've been fooled before.

There are a lot of interesting and beautiful sites to see in Lawrence. The many interesting, historic homes and it's one of the best parts of my weekly search for subjects.
When I saw what became the subject this week, the first thing that came to mind was "Mary Poppins!" as exclaimed by Bert (Dick Van Dyke).

This week's photo is the back of the upper floor of shops near the SW corner of 9th and Mass. Pennie Annie's is, I'm pretty sure, one of those shops.

Sometimes the photos I post are of places and things that I believe are hidden gems that you may not have seen or noticed. Sometimes they are of landmarks that I try to present in a way that makes them difficult to recognize. Sometimes I try to mislead by making statements that are true but meaningless.
All the diversions and effort should be considered a compliment to those who participate. I'm very reluctant to give anything but vague hints. All of you have seem to have become adept at identifying the subject with a ridiculously miniscule part of the photo.

The subject this week was suggested by geekin_topekan.
Last week's was outside town, this week should be easier, but I've tried to make sure it's not.
Do you ever see something and get out of your car to take a closer look? You should.

This weeks photo is going to be hard, hard, hard.
Did I say hard?
In fact, because this photo will be so difficult to identify, I've posted it early on Sunday afternoon.
Because of the difficulty I'm sure you'll have, I'll even give a few vague hints...
You won't find this on Google Streetview and it is definitely not on a well traveled route. However, I've driven within a few hundred yards of this countless times over the years--you may have, too.
BTW, last week I included a small request for subject ideas. I've received one so far and it is definitely on the list to be the subject of an IPS post in the near future.
Jonathan Keeling improved on thetagger's near miss and identified an old railroad bridge near the intersection of US24-40 and K32.
Different view, same bridge:

And one more thing... I've posted more than 75 In Plain Sight/So Much to See posts. And, to be honest, sometimes I struggle to find interesting subjects.

Since I didn't actually do a (local) photo last week, there are two photos this week. One has been on my list of subjects, almost since the beginning of this blog. The other was something I ran across just today.
Here is partial image #1 from photo #1:
And partial image #1 from photo #2:
Ronda identified the picture of the building at 645 Mass, across from Liberty Hall with the owl watching from above.

And Tytanium identified the band practice field. I knew the owl wouldn't last long, but I hoped this would last a bit.

I've been out of town the last few days and had the chance to take some pictures. To be honest, I've been looking for an excuse to post a picture or two, so I'm going to follow the usual formula.
However this week, the picture is not in Lawrence. Not in Douglas county, or even in Kansas. It is, however, something that you have surely seen and is located in the continental U.S.
So even though this picture is not In Plain Sight, there is a lot to see. I'll post a part of the complete picture tonight. Another tomorrow morning, a third tomorrow afternoon, and the whole picture tomorrow evening.
Here's the first image:
And the 2nd:
Here is the picture, identified by autie of Mount. St. Helens. Taken by me just yesterday.

The long drive from Seatltle was an adventure. All the video and pictures I've seen give (at least me) the impression that it is surrounded by fairly flat terrain. In truth, it is a fascinating and beautiful area. I'll be adding some additional pictures to my Flickr account. You should be able to navigate to them from the link in the picture above.
And, BTW, congratulations, autie.
