dancemomx2 is the undisputed winner this week. She identified the building on the NW corner of Clinton Parkway which Cody has identified as old School No. 6. He also supplied a link with a photo of the area from over 50 years ago.
Here's the complete picture (click for larger image):
Nothing fancy this week. Next week I'll try to find something clever, something subtle or out of the way, something artistic yet meaningful.
Or maybe the subject of the picture this week is all of those and I just don't know it!

If you're wondering what this is all about, you can click on the link at the top to see previous installments. I don't think of it as a game so much as an exercise.
Here are the rules/directions/instructions:
I'll post part of a complete picture of some place or thing here in Lawrence (or the greater Lawrence area). Each day (or so) I'll add a larger or different part of the complete picture.
Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to identify the subject of the picture.
You can discuss your guesses in the comments. To be the "winner", identify your guess as "final" and, if you're correct, you'll receive the rewards as described below.
The first person who correctly identifies the subject and location will be notified by me that their guess was correct. After a day or so, when the subject is confirmed (although it will likely already be obvious), I'll post their name/username and it will be recorded in this blog for posterity.
What more could you ask for than that?

Definitely 23rd and Iowa. This 1955 photo run in the J-W in December 2005 refers to it as the Old No. 6 School…

It's amazing how much that intersection has changed. Thanks for the pic. Do you know any other history about the building? Just curious.

I wish I did. I can't find any other stories in the 6News or JW archives — doesn't mean they don't exist, I just can't locate them — and I haven't ever covered anything about it in my 11 years in town.
I'd also love to hear more about it, though…

I'd say go ask at the Watkins Museum, but since Steve and others have left or been fired, I'm not sure anyone could answer your question!
I have noticed Dave being noticeably quiet in this SMTS though, leading me to believe the masses have misidentified the building? Dave, need some more cookies?

I'll have to ask my dad or one of my grandmothers if they are familiar with it. One of my grandmothers graduated from Liberty Memorial. It would be interesting to know more info. Thanks for checking, choward:)

my first thought was the building on 23rd, but I never had a good view of the side of the building.
And Dave,
haven't you used that building before?

Dave,
I wish you wouldn't give away my home away from home. After all, the weather is rainy and colder, perfect sleeping weather. Dang! Now every sales guy and boy scout will be around selling vacuum cleaners and popcorn. Oh well, can't fault a creative blog.

mo3, you scared me and I thought my memory was getting the best of me. I went back through each of my previous SMTS posts (40 not counting this one) to make sure I haven't used it before.
This was taken on March 1st at 1:21 PM so I've been saving it for a while.
