Yeah Yeah Yeahs

On Wednesday some friends and I headed out to see Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Woohoo!
The show was pretty awesome. The crowd was not. Man, I did not like that crowd. At all. It was as though all the college girls discovered vodka and then hit the town. Hard. But on the plus side, the crowd was mostly friendly. Too bad I was next to the guy in the rainbow jacket who insisted on dancing with his arms out as far as they could reach. I did not appreciate the constant jabby elbows to the head. His lady friend was thrashing. Who thrashes at a Yeah Yeah Yeahs show?!

Anyway, here’s what they opened with (check out the awesome mask lead singer Karen O is sporting!):

A while back I filled out one of those lame “15 most influential albums” lists on facebook. Fever to Tell made the list. At the time I was having a hard time finding some female vocalists I liked. I, the rough looking, shaggy haired, deep-voiced female who had a hard time fitting in the bands I played with, finally found a vocalist I could connect with. Woohoo!

The first time I saw them perform live was after they released Fever to Tell. That was a GREAT show (and it was in Lawrence!). At the time, they didn’t move a lot on stage, and I never once saw the lead singer’s face. She kept it covered in her thick bangs, and looked down a lot.

But now, it’s quit obvious that she’s become quite the performer.

I love how much the band engaged the audience (as annoying as the audience was). Plus, she had charm. All she had to do was whip out that flashy smile of hers and they were wrapped around her little finger. Guitarist Nick Zinner, though, still played with his back to the audience a lot of the time, and hid in the shadows (that’s why I don’t have many photos of him from the show). That’s okay. He’s cute, so I’ll let him get away with it.

Overall, I’m glad I went. They put on a fantastic show. Here are some more clips for your viewing pleasure.
