Kansas University police are looking for whoever burglarized at least six rooms of a KU residence hall on the same night, stealing prescription drugs and hundreds of dollars in cash while residents slept.

On Thursday, students reported six aggravated burglaries that occurred between late Wednesday night and Thursday morning at Lewis Hall, according to Capt. James Anguiano of the KU Office of Public Safety.

In all cases, the rooms were unlocked and one or more occupants were asleep inside when the burglar or burglars entered, Anguiano said. No one was hurt.

Items reported stolen in the six cases were $60 in cash from a victim’s wallet; sunglasses and headphones valued at $500; $500 cash and prescription medication valued at $300; a $5 bill; prescription medication valued at $40; and a $100 bill, according to KU crime reports.

KU police are still gathering information and following leads in the case, Anguiano said. He said it was too soon to say whether the burglaries were the work of one of more suspects.

In light of the spate of burglaries, Anguiano offered this safety advice: “Lock your doors. Don’t always count on your roommate to lock the door … and make sure your valuables are accounted for.”

Anyone with information about the burglaries is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 864-8888 or the KU Office of Public Safety at 864-5900.

Also on Wednesday, according to KU crime reports, two people reported backpacks being stolen from women’s restrooms at the Kansas Union and Watson Library. Both cases remain open.
