Regents release qualified admissions report

The Kansas Board of Regents Wednesday released its annual report on qualified admissions in the state university system.According to information within the report (Page 33, PDF), Kansas University admits the smallest percentage of students who fall outside of the three-pronged qualified admissions standards. Under that standard, students must earn either an ACT score of 21, graduate in the top third of their high school class or earn at least a 2.0 on a prescribed curriculum.All data is for the 2006-07 freshman class.Here’s a list of the number of students admitted as exceptions to those standards and the percent of total admits they make up. State law caps exceptions at 10 percent of total admissions. Emporia State 139 – 9.1 percent Ft. Hays State 120 – 9.5 percent Kansas State 228 – 3.4 percent Pittsburg State 91 – 5.3 percent Univ. of Kansas 110 – 1.2 percent Wichita State 66 – 2.5 percentThe report also includes information on the number of students admitted as well as those denied. KU also has the a high rate of denials, though Wichita State denies more.Resident Emporia State 4 – 1,320 – 0.3 percent Ft.
