KU expects to save $1 million next year using new purchasing program

Kansas University will save more than $750,000 in fiscal year 2008, and would save more than $1 million in fiscal year 2009, under new regulations that allow for additional flexibility in making purchases.A pilot program approved by the Kansas Legislature allows KU and Fort Hays State University to negotiate their own contracts for things like computers and office supplies, among other things.The pilot program runs until 2010. Officials at KU and Fort Hays recommended the program be made permanent, and expanded to all Regents institutions.
