KU student senator admonished for holding closed meeting

Kansas University’s Student Senate tonight will discuss one of its members choosing to close a committee meeting, in violation of Senate rules and regulations and perhaps in violation of the Kansas Open Meetings Act.Student Senator Mason Heilman Oct. 24 asked all nonmembers of the Student Rights committee to leave the room. At that time, members told the University Daily Kansan, they discussed tuition grants for seven student body leaders. Student Senate rules require all business to be conducted in open session.Student Body President Hannah Love and Vice President Ray Wittlinger last week sent Heilman a letter admonishing him for violating the rules.Student Senate meets tonight in the Kansas Union.
