As part of “End Global Poverty Week,” a group of KU students are taking to Wescoe Beach for 24 hours to raise money and awareness.Chancellor Robert Hemenway, a major proponent of implementing the Millennium Development Goals, even stopped by to lend his name to the fight against poverty. He signed his name to the petition and picked up some of the literature the students had to hand out.The students are also accepting donations and selling T-shirts. The proceeds will go to the Nothing but Nets campaign, which provides mosquito nets to children in Africa.The students are also encouraging people to sign a petition against the controversial proposed coal power plant in Holcomb. Hemenway declined to take a stance on that issue.
