Blogs home HDMI Cable Theory
HDMI Cable Conspiracy
For those of you lucky enough to own a High Definition television, you are familiar with a wire thingy called an HDMI Cable. Why is this necessary? I'm looking into purchasing one of these HDTV devices and in my research have come across a lesson in which I need some schooling.
What I find weird is that a regular coax cable takes the audio and video signals from Sunflower to your home right? But yet you have to have a special HDMI cable that goes from the cable box to your HDTV in order to get the HD picture. So one of my questions is what egg-zackly is being sent in the coax cable that goes to the cable box? What about the law that states something to the effect of, "That little white spot on the top of chicken poop...that's chicken poop too." Or...."Pouring syrup on poop doesn't make it a pancake." Or garbage in...garbage out." etc...etc... Well....maybe some of you understand what it is that I'm trying to get at.
Here's a conversation I imagined up that the HDTV makers had back in the day: "You know..... we should patent a cable called HDMI and downgrade the picture of our HDTV if the consumer plugs in a standard coax cable. That way they will be forced to buy a cable that we can charge cable makers a patent fee for each cable they make. We sell our TV's cheap and make it up with the mandatory accessory sale and get our profits back up through the HDMI patent. Once these morons think they're getting a fantastic deal on the HDTV (and they will), they buy it! Then we'll get it right back from them through the cable. They won't worry about the price of the cable...because heck!!!.......They think they just stole a TV!"
I did research enough to know that I can get a cable for around $13-15 that will do the same thing as the $120.00 cable will. It's just 1's and 0's. You aren't sending any oscillating analog waves, nor any power. What you are sending is a low-power digital signal. The digital signal is either on or off, and it is impossible to distort it without ruining it.
But yet I still felt the need to write a blog and read what all the great posters of Lawrence have to offer up on this subject!!!!
Have at it everyone!
