Whatever happened to Haskell Indian Nations University’s BA in Health Science Degree?

Whatever happened to Haskell Indian Nations University’s BA in Health Science Degree? According to their site on Indian Country Today: Haskell is now down to two BA degrees: Bachelor of Arts in American Indian Studies and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. In comparison KU has 130 undergraduate and 220 masters, doctorate, and professional degree programs. Is there a minimum of BA degrees that a university must offer before it can call itself a university? Is Chris Redman doing anything to reinstate the health science degree and put new BA degrees in at Haskell?

Exactly what do you do with a BA in American Indian Studies? It seems to me that HINU should be offering programs that will lead to a career and will transfer easily to another college or university, whether it be KU or out of state.
The students at HINU deserve a lot better than they are getting. Too many people in charge who are comfortable with the way that things are, and the students are an afterthought.

Exactly what do the students do with a BA in American Indian Studies?? Only two BA's ?? and one that amounts to next to nothing? Waste of students time and TAXPAYERS DOLLARS !!

I once served on projects to approve new degree programs. All the standards are public and posted. Look them up. Haskell will struggle for lots of reasons. Programs are approved one-at -a-time and checked every few years to see if they still meet standards. Even KU started small. Haskell is flawed but serves a critical purpose. They deserve our support.

Oh, absolutely, I do support the Haskell students, and I realize they have come a long ways from the bad old days. But, a lot more needs to be done, and at a faster rate if those students are going to be able compete in the job market. I think they are capable of doing a great deal more than is being offered or expected of them.

Haskell seems to be stuck in a time warp. Sad for the students and the taxpayers.

Time and money.

Seems like they have had plenty of time and since they have monies for American Indian Studies then they have monies for a BA in Health Sciences. Which more students would surely benefit from. Lose the BA in American Indian Studies if they have to. Give taxpayers something for their money and a BA that more students can benefit from. Simple.

The AIS program is the VPAA's program that she "developed"..now with her being the one who makes up classes ..there wont be any new programs comming to haskell. That program is terrible and she was called on it and told to make it better, but she destroyed the incomming president and by crying to people behind their back, fired people who didnt go along with her and when she was put into a "acting president" she changed the organization chart to fix her people up, but that was illegal and got caught, she said she had studies on her programs were the best but nobody ever saw a study, or even heard of it..she was during the meeting about it and she got mad and said "meet me later and I will tell you"..she didnt have anything...Health degrees is what they need ..or even a casino mangement program cause gaming effects every tribe now, .heck other school have those now..hell the AIS program ihas new instructors every semester..they wont hire other postions that are need cause her friends need jobs, grant money stolen and moved by CFO to help her, and why is dan wildcat getting to travel on haskell $ and doing nothing for haskell, besides arent you supposed to be a federally recongized chief to use tht money and not a state recognized tribe...and why is he making his students buy his book for class..did he report that as extra iincome to the feds..yes..there will be no new programs..just the same ole 2..what is the prez doing?..waiting his time for his degree and then moving on?..the coruption at haskell is there still..The BOR leader needs to go ..we have alumni that have degrees and knowledge to help us move foward ..not just fly all over on haskells dime..and do nothing..instead of waiting for something to happen, ..make something happen..just dont sit in a meeting and fall to sleep.....the problem is old thoughts...hell bring back Bob martin..at least he tried..the problem is the Vppa and her group...during my walk this morning the campus looks bad ..buildings and roads..whop is in charge of that?..and somebody tell that counelor to stop running her mouth..she needs a zanax.....

Too much information. Please keep politics inside Haskell.
drillsgt 8 months, 3 weeks ago
the problem is keeping it in haskell..let the native tribes know how bad it has become out there ..keeping it in the circle is the worst thing to happen

I just checked Haskell's website. There are several bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees offered. There are also a few associate degrees (two year). The school is very small. It looks to me like it is trying to do too much rather than too little.
bobandmywife 8 months, 3 weeks ago
@ hear_me Why would anyone have to keep Haskell's politics "inside Haskell" taxpayers pay for that place and we have every right to know what is going on over there. What are the SEVERAL BA's that they offer? Are you saying they offer more then one in BA in any field ? if so that is uncalled for. They need A LOT of BAs in a lot of different fields. Why is it not just called what it is ? A junior college. What is the new president doing?
Frankie8 8 months, 3 weeks ago
That is exactly what the south said about the blacks during the civil rights struggle. Let us handle it, we don't need outsiders coming in and riling things up. Same thing with Haskell, the less people know, the less people care, the more a few are going to get away with. Why would you not want to support the students at Haskell and help them. Now, I know that there are very small Native Americans. So, why are none of them working on making Haskell the University it can be? There needs to be an investigation that solves some problems.
bobandmywife 8 months, 3 weeks ago
@ frankie8 There does need to be an investigation. Apparently no one in Washington cares enough to order that done. Their attitude seems too be they flat out don't care. Sad for the students. Anytime someone says keep the politics at Haskell pretty much is saying there are secrets to be found. Haskell is not a private club and everything that goes on out there needs to be an open book. It's gone down hill so much taxpayers should no longer be footing the bill. Bring on an investigation !
hear_me 8 months, 3 weeks ago
Bob and Frankie, Blogging about Haskell will not solve whatever problems you think it has. It just makes Haskell look bad. Work with the BIA or Senator Roberts. I'm all for supporting Haskell, but, as a taxpayer, I cannot begin to sort things out. You need a more effective strategy.
geekin_topekan 8 months, 3 weeks ago
It would literally take an act of congress to investigate Haskell. As a sovereign people, they would have to pose a threat to the US or its allies in order for such actions to be justified.
Dont think that the actings don't know this.
Like it or not, the laws that brought you Kansas also brought Haskell. Can't pick and choose which ones you like and dont like then ignore one over the other.
hear_me 8 months, 3 weeks ago
If you are looking for direct links, then students, parents, and your board of regents are your constituency. Most Kansans have no direct benefit from Haskell other than the opportunity to know native people and attend events open to the public.
