In all the controversy currently surrounding Haskell Indian Nations University Dr. Russell Blackbird resigns. ”
Haskell Indian Nations University Campus news reports that Dr. Russell Blackbird, the most qualified and respected administrator left on Haskell's campus, resigned today.
He was highly instrumental in getting the teacher education program accredited by the state of Kansas and that accreditation will be in jeopardy because there are very few Dr. Blackbird's willing to put up with the academic nonsense found on Haskell's campus.
A lots of folks are sad to see him go.
Particularly interesting will be Dr. Blackbird's take on people who claim to be Indian but are members of non-recognized tribes, people who redefine "ethics" so that nothing is illegal, and faculty who harass other employees.
Of course, Dr .Blackbird may just move on a more intellectual career, like the one he came from, and spend his time trying to forget the layers of dysfunction that permeate Parker Hall.
We wish him the Best.

I wish him the best. He is well respected in the Lawrence and Haskell communities, with a proven record. Too bad the BIE is letting people of his stature be harrassed until they leave. Who's next?

It is beginning to sound like Haskell University isn't.
The students deserve a lot more, I would say, but then, maybe some like lazy instructors because that permits them to be.
I am quite aware there is some of the same situation on the KU campus. Teachers with accents that can't be understood.
TAS's being asked to absorb the grunt work along with abuse.
