Don't Underestimate That Senior Citizen!

66 year old Texan Vic Stacy put 5 shots of .357 magnum revolver rounds into a killer armed with a scoped 30-30 carbine who had already killed two neighbors and their dogs. Police had arrived on the scene but were unable to get a clear shot at shooter Charles Robert Conner with their AR-15 sporting rifles. From 165 yards away Conner's neighbor Vic Stacy had a clear view of the shooter, fired his first shot from his 5" barrel .357magnum and hit Conner in the thigh. Conner then turned his attention to Stacy, who then fired 4 more rounds into the murderous neighbor, killing him.

What, you might ask started this shooting spree? A heavily armed Conner had confronted his neighbor and the neighbor's girlfriend over their dogs pooping in his yard. Clearly a case of one man who had no business with a firearm . . . . and another man who possibly prevented additional killings of responding police officers because he did own (and practiced with) firearms.

Good job, Tex! I have a .41 Magnum that I hope could do the same. It is a very underestimated piece.

Vic is an American hero in the truest sense of the word. He had the skill, knowledge, training, weapons and presence of mind to step it up at the right time and place.

Maybe people shouldn't let their dogs poop in other people's yards.

Then, the whole problem could have been avoided, and nobody would have lost their lives.

Yep, in a society where virtually everyone has access to guns, there will be those who kill for no good reason and sometimes those who will stop crimes using guns. Maybe mental competancy needs to be part of our "well regulated" access to arms.

"Maybe mental competancy needs to be part of our "well regulated" access to arms."

Really? If we are going to have mental competency to regulate one right, maybe we should have competency tests before being granted any right by the governemnt instead of just deriving them from the creator as those silly founding fathers thought. That would certainly shut up the stupid people.

When I built my home in '75 there were only two other homes within half mile of me, and nobody thought anything of it if I popped a few caps off the back deck. Now there are eleven houses within spitting distance so I either go to a more rural setting or to the gun range to shoot. Most of my neighbors are also weapons enthusiasts but I do respect those whose views are . . . not mine. If a neighbor's dog gets into the habit of defecating on my lawn, a pellet to the haunches with a low velocity air pistol will get him pooping in his own yard after one or two "lessons" with no loss of blood or friendship.

165 yards with a 5" barrel .357. Pretty good shot. A little higher and towards the middle and he wouldn't have had to waste more rounds.

I once hit a gallon jug at 250 yards with a Ruger Security Six. The bet was that I couldn't hit it with the six rounds in the gun. I hit it on the second shot.

I used to be pretty good with a slingshot and I grinned a possum down from a tree once.

Trouble is shooting does not start fires, unless someone can explain to me how lead can catch fire or cause sparks when it strikes something, I don't believe it, because it simply goes against Science.......comment on Mother Jones.

Roe?

Although highly unlikely that a lead or lead core projectile could start a fire by simply striking flammable materials, other factors do come into play. Some bullets have steel cores, some are "tracer" rounds and if rocks are ricocheted off of these or about any jacketed bullet they can create hot sparks that can easily ignite dry weeds or leaves. Hope that helps frankie8 !

Yes it does, sorry it took me so long to reply. You need to have a weapons 101 blog. Imagine all the nay sayers lining up to get lessons on the firing range after a few blogs. Woot! Woot! Say, Roe, are you all fired up?
