Song Blog: Fire And Brimstone! Songs of Wrath, Revenge and Punishment.

Ronda Miller brought to my attention that a "Random" act of nature, a lightning strike near the Caylee Anthony memorial, is now being seen as sign of disapproval by God for the verdict in Casey Anthony's trial. Well, I'm not one to get into arguments of a religious nature, but I will not be looking for pictures of Jesus in my toast if you know what I mean. Ronda did pass on an idea for a song blog however and it goes something like this.

Name a song that deals with wrath, revenge and or punishment. Please limit your posts to one song with the title, artist and a link or the lyrics. Have fun with it, and get creative!

Silver Phial by Gene Clark. Founding member of the Byrds and graduate of Bonner Springs High School. One of our own. The lyrics of this song resonate. Gene had personal battles with alcohol, but it never crept into his music. He was an artist first and foremost.

And could you stand the torture And could you stand the pain Could you put your faith in Jesus When you're burning in the flames

And I do believe in miracles And I want to save my soul And I know that I'm a sinner I'm gonna die here in the cold I said yes, I said yeah

I said yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah You'll never make a saint of me Oh yeah, oh yeah You'll never make a saint of me

I never before knew that Roe painted the Sistine Chapel. What a Renaissance man.

RoeDapple 4 years ago

Boston - You aren't so far from the truth. A (very) distant relative of mine carried supplies to Leonardo da Vinci as he painted the chapel ceiling. (paint, clean brushes, a sammich now and then) Yep, union man. Hod carrier. Later on got his butt dumped down Louisiana way, ended up a cajun forefather . . .or at least one of his descendants did.

Imagine, Leonardo doing all that work on the ceiling and then Michelangelo came along and painted right over it. : )

OOPS!! My bad, bea! You are correct of course . . . even had a brother named after him, Mike . . .

Yep, worth repeating. Are you reading the big nippled being as a general represention of addiction? However you read it can I just say, I hate wasps. (That should help stir a little more interest in people watching this very bizarre, yet fascinating clip.)

whoa, somebody scored the good stuff. parasitic wasps actually do that, you know.

Bob Dylan - The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVSWc9KzqV0&feature=related

A song about justice not served. Check out the long nterview with Steve Allen before the song. Television moved much slower back then.

Adam Raised a Cain - Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band

"In the Bible Cain slew Abel and East of Eden he was cast You're born into this life paying for the sins of somebody else's past Daddy worked his whole life for nothing but the pain Now he walks these empty rooms looking for something to blame You inherit the sins, you inherit the flames Adam raised a Cain."

Jack Straw from Wichita cut his buddy down, And dug a shallow grave and laid his body down, Half a mile from Tucson by the morning light, One man gone and another to go, my old buddy you're moving much too slow.

We can share the women, we can share the wine.

The wheel is turning and it can't slow down, You can't let go and you can't hold on, You can't go back and you can't stand still. If the thunder don't get you then the lightning will.
