Songs, Phrases and Old Sayings About Luck

This is the last time I'm bringing this blog back. Really. No more. D-U-N, done. But in honor of St. Patrick's day and all of you descendants, real or wannabe, of good Irish stock, this final addition will be dedicated to you!

What we will do is this; Post a song, a phrase or an old saying that includes "luck" in it. Good luck or bad doesn't matter, for we all know the Irish have had their share of both.

    Nobody likes to Blog. Nobody. Blogging hurts you, sometimes very badly. First you like to Blog because your father wants you to. Then you like Blog to get the girls. If you keep on Blogging, you do it for scholarships, and to get the girls. Then you like to Blog for the money and the girls. Then you get to just watch Bloggers, and that’s fun. But nobody likes to Blog. Nobody

    I hate the traffic light at the intersection of Harvard and Iowa. If you are on Harvard wanting to cross Iowa the traffic light takes 3-5 (even when 5-10 cars are waiting)minutes to change. Now, when I go up of down 9th st, if a car is at an intersecting light (even just one car) that light will change in a heartbeat.
    Seems like most days when I drive to and from work I hit every light on 9th st. Stinks!

    Don't even get me started on self-flushing toilets, Roe. I'm firmly convinced they are the devil's invention.

    For that matter, motion sensor anything pretty much sucks. Soap dispensers, paper towels, water spigots, etc. I'm all about being environmentally friendly, but the damned things don't work!

    Which reminds me, what's with the new motion activated hand soap dispensers for the home? The commercial goes on and on about all of the germs on top of your hand soap dispenser, implying that the evil germs will someday destroy your family. HELLO! You touch the thing to get the stupid soap to wash the germs off of your stupid hands!

    Whew...thanks for this opportunity, Roe. I'm sure I'll think of something else that royally chaps my a$$ once I catch my breath.

    I hate job interviews, especially surprise panel interviews. The questions they ask drive me crazy: What would you consider your biggest weakness? I detest most people, that's a weakness, what about that? No one can answer that question truthfully or they won't get the job. My point is, obviously I'm qualified for the position if my resume and references are in front of you and you can see that I have the skill set and education you're looking for. Why spend an hour asking someone mundane questions like: Where do you see yourself in 5 years or Can you tell me a specific situation where your had to a lead a team for a special project? Read the resume, dude, it's all pretty much there. Now ask me something fun or interesting or even off the wall. I'd rather hear: What's the most ridiculous thing you watched on t.v. in the last month, or What's your all-time favorite movie, or heck, even, Would you like fries with that? Anything to get to know each other on a more personal level. If you spend 40 or more hours per week together shouldn't you know if you're going to be able to work, laugh and have fun around that person, too? I'm just saying. BTW, anyone know of a decent daycare center in Topeka? Looks like I may be going back to work. : )

    If you happen to see a ghost in a craft store, and the ghost looks at you, and it shakes you up a little, you should probably chill out for a little while before operating a motor vehicle. Because if you don't, you could get into a wreck and potentially become the more traditional type of ghost, not the kind that just haunts the memory of one individual.

    Everyone of you who are running in the pack have been channeling a portion of Marion. The one person you people couldn't stand. Yup. Marion is still here because a part of him is in each one of your heads. He is probably LHAO with all the space he has rented free in your minds.

    I am sure you people are incapable of seeing it but people do care. They just aren't saying anything. And as to hurting. What about what the bunch of you is doing to Irish? All of you know her history well. The bunch of you ganged up on her. All of you against just one person who you knew is not capable of defending herself. You weren't happy with just making fun of her. You kept it up. You even set her up and are still trying to keep it up after it was obvious that it had gone to far. You twits have turned this into nothing more than Face Book or My Space. If Irish does something irrational, or has a nervous break down, what are you bunch of fools going to have to say for yourselves? Or do you even have the decency to care?

    I have no use for Marion and I don't agree with everything that Irish does or posts, but as far as I am concerned everyone of you should have had your butts bounced off of here for what you have been doing.

While I'm at it, I hate coworkers who hold you as a captive audience in your cube, and talk for an hour about work, even though it's time for break, all the while one-upping your stories and telling you that you're wrong, all the while ignoring your attempts to get up and get a drink or use the bathroom. Behind the scenes huh? That is a Multi trick. Why no balls to defend her in the open. From this side of the fence it looks like you set her up. You put her up to blogging about sled dogs which was tied to a Marion subject and played right into the hands of your pubescent group. Even if good was your intent it doesn't take a rocket scientist to connect the dots and your group sure enjoyed turning it into the poster child for the butt of jokes.

    Hey Roedy, It is clear that on occasion there may be some rather juvenile exchanges on these boards, I reckon we would have to admit. However, the last I understood, it is free, public and nobody forces anybody to participate. If one views the exchanges as something well beneath their personal dignity or is so far above the maddening crowd, I reckon they can go elsewhere. But to presume to come here and judge the values or morality or intellectual level of discussion in a manner to suggest that we are all beneath him, is just as rude and elementary as what he accuses the "pack" of. So if you don't like it, go away.

    Attacked Irish? What are you talking about headdoctor? Nobody "attacked" her, but we did have some fun on her blog with Wal-Mart jokes and such. For some reason, she couldn't handle it and took it all personally even when we told her it wasn't personal, yet she threw a fit and removed the blog's content -- not for the first time. However, nobody "attacked" her, although we may have questioned her tactics. I actually advised her to just roll with it and have some fun. Not my fault that she couldn't take this advice, and since she can't just have fun with the randomness of responses then maybe not posting here is in her own best interest.

    She did, on the other hand, call me a witch ... which was uncalled for, as I've only occassionally turned anyone into a newt.

    As far as whether "Irish does something irrational, or has a nervous break down, what are you bunch of fools going to have to say for yourselves" goes -- I would say it a sad thing, but wouldn't blame myself no more than I'd blame myself for the nervous breakdown someone has because I unintentionally beat them to the last package of Nutter Butters in the cookie aisle. Obviously if Irish did something rash it would be the actions of a troubled individual, but they wouldn't be a result of others' commenting actions. My god, if I got upset for the nasty things said about my liberal political views, I'd be in the state hospital by now. If anything, the LJWorld should perhaps consider the mental health of its bloggers before providing access, or let them know in no uncertain terms up front that bloggers are not in control of what others will say.

    You are acting like we came on here and just kicked a kitten for the fun of it, and that isn't true.

    By the way, your suggesting that Irish's mental health is now on my shoulders has really, really upset me. If I do something rash now, it is all your fault. (See how irrational that is?)

    As to the picture of intersecting highways at the top, it was saved for a blog about the Kasold Street bridge going over the turnpike. I understand the reason for a center turning lane when there is no where to turn on either end of the bridge is because it is actually a four lane bridge in preparation for Kasold to go four lanes in the future. Now for those of you familiar with the area, you know there are two roundabouts south of this bridge. If Kasold is changed to four lanes, it looks like either the roundabouts will have to be expanded into the yards of the homes at the intersections involved, or eliminated and made into 3-way stops. Whichever, it looks like major expense that could have been avoided with a little planning..

    You are in my mind one of the most level headed straight talking posters this forum has. While my complaint involving Irish may have been a bit overboard I figure you of all people could see how she was responding and understand where I was coming from. I agree that if you enter a public form you better have thick skin and if not you probably shouldn't be there. That would be in a perfect world. Irish has made no secrete with struggling with mental issues and I am pretty sure some of these people know that because of her own admission on posts. Some of her actions and posts make it very obvious and it isn't as if she hasn't went off on tangents before. My issue with the posters was they could see very well that she was upset and was getting more upset. The group didn't just settle for that. They kept it up and started popping up old blogs. I agree that normally someone shouldn't be that sensitive but we are talking about Irish. Either way continuing what was going on didn't need to happen. I have no idea what set her off. Maybe it was feeling betrayed by Roe. Who knows. It isn't like kicking a kitten but to keep irritating someone who obviously can not express or defend themselves and who may very well well be unstable isn't right either.

  82. meggers (anonymous) says…

    headdoctor,

    It's clear you mean well, but I believe that your last post may have unintentionally done more to insult Irish than anything that happened yesterday on the Wal-Mart blog. People ramble here all of the time and that doesn't mean they have mental illness. Acting like people should treat Irish differently because she's been treated for mental health issues is an insult not just to Irish, but to all of the other people living with mental illness. That's like telling someone to make sure you're nice to so-and-so, because they're, well...a little bit off.

    Again, I realize that was not your intent, but I doubt that most people living with mental illness care to be stigmatized in such a way that they cannot interact with others normally (or abnormally, as is often the case on the LJW).

    I've seen Irish write some decent stuff on here and I think she speaks from her heart. Sure, some of the things she's posted I disagree with, or just sort of say WTF?. Still, I never for a second thought that they were byproducts of mental illness. Now barrypenders, on the other hand... oh never mind.

  86. beatrice (anonymous) says…

    hd, the moshing doesn't stop just because certain fragile individuals enter the pit.

    If we tell her to have some fun and that it isn't personal -- as happened -- and she doesn't take the advice and keeps coming back for more self-induced anger by writing more entries, you can't blame others. The old blogs popped up only after she removed the content from her recent blogs -- which is a very agrivating thing for readers. Again, it wasn't the first time she had done this. She also frequently complained about how she didn't get comments on her blogs. Well .... look at what happens when people do comment. As far as being unable to express her own feelings, I think you aren't giving her enough credit. She has held her own on plenty of occassions.

    And RoeD had nothing to do with it! Only one responsible for Irish's actions is Irish.

    It might have been a hard lesson for her, I guess, but it is apparently in her best interest to just stay away after all.

  87. tmkatt (Tom Miller) says…

    The LJW owns the blogs, not Irish. However, after I received my cease and desist letter today, it made me wonder why the LJW wouldn't just pull them since it is obviously causing headaches over there.

    If you can figure out Kealings actions or lack thereof, you are doing better than most. I don't know if it is inexperience, incompetence, or just not caring. I know they have the right to do what they want but I have wondered why they even bother with a TOS. I have no idea what you are referring to on a cease and desist.

    Yup. And I do realize you saw what was happening and tried to get her to lighten up. Which it is things like that, that make you different than the group I was calling out. They didn't care. I figured when I went off that everyone who posted on those blogs would think I was pointing the finger at them. I haven't bothered to count but there are probably only ten or less posters that I was growling about. That is if you don't count the multiple screen names that some are using.

    You could be right about that. Sometimes it is very hard to say what you mean by beating around the bush about a given subject. This issue is something I didn't bring up without giving it some thought before hand. If I hurt her with what I said I will apologize to her and hope she can get past the issue. Fortunately the greater majority are just people using this as a venting hole to relieve stress. Then add to the mix the LJW never fully report all the facts of a story. They are akin to the enquirer. I am unaware of what happened to Irish. But, I rekon she is of an adult age and can take care of herself. Your scolding was chivelrous (sp?) I suppose but isn't that also sexist, to think that one must defend another because of their impied gender weakness'? You will go crazy trying to debate anyone on here, for every comment you make ten poople will disagree with you and call you names. So, please don't let this crappola upset you so much.
    Blogging on here is an exercise in frustration, futility, and insanity. The greater majority of pooples on here are not truley mean poople, they just use this as a mask for releasing their internal hostility.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Bea, there wasn't any "we" in telling Irish not to take it personally. You were the only one who came back and said that you weren't trying to hurt her feelings.
    And the blogs don't seem to get bumped up when edited. Anna has edited her blogs before & they didn't bump them any higher and when Irish edited her blogs in the past It is new posts that do so.
    I guess some people would rather have us getting drunk, driving and killing or injuring someone rather than just coming here for a little fun. This seems much safer for everyone than getting drunk and hurting someone.
    So your idea of a little fun is to torment someone who is obviously upset, distressed and hurt? It was pretty obvious she was not taking anything you all were throwing at her in good fun and your buds continued to push.
    The one humorous thing about that yesterday is that apparently is that your behind the scenes ringleader thought everything about Irish was fair game until others starting making fun of the mobility scooters and it hit a little too close to home so she got a bit cranky about that.
    This complaint is funny. Isn't the main response to those who have objections as to how others are being treated on here is that people don't have to read it if they don't want to? That you don't have to click on the item? So why didn't you all do that with Irish's blogs?
    That's the problem here. Too many people have stayed silent about you and the other ♣ members' behavior.
    Unfortunately, I too subscribed to the same thinking that Kealing obviously did - that if you ignore the bad behavior, it will stop because it will no longer be rewarded with the desired attention. Apparently the theory works on small children but not on adults behaving like small children.
You can copy & paste the LJW threads that Multi archived to your hearts' content and say whatever you want and play as many games as you like there.
    You've just defined the majority of the bloggers on LJW.
    And a reasonable and rational person would let things die down. They were not dealing with a reasonable or rational person but rather a person who could be easily provoked and manipulated into all sorts of behavior.
    For all those people who reply to others having issues with their posts or blogs with "If you don't like it, you don't have to read it", why did they not follow their own advice? Clearly, they were not happy with Irish's blogs or behavior. Why egg it on?
    I do not consider a temper tantrum to be an adult behavior even if it is done by an adult. If you behave like a child, then expect to get treated like one. I will add that if there is a reason for a child having a temper tantrum (too much stimulation, hungry, overtired, etc) then you modify your reaction to the tantrum.
    And even if it is an act, what are you accomplishing? Why aren't you going after the others who have had many usernames? If that is going to be your justification for your behavior how about some consistency with it? There are only 2 that you do that frequently with & I can think of at least 3 other people that are regularly bounced & then come back again. I have yet to see you call them out.
    please reread my post. her use of multiple screen names is *meant* to support my contention that Irish's behavior is an act. she is not the innocent she portrays herself to be.
    and as to users with multiple names, I have gone after two individuals who have repeatedly violated the TOS and common decency, one is on incarnation like #15+ and one is now cyberknight.
    I figure I've been able to keep *one* username, so others should be able to too.
    hey you guys should approach the city and apply for funding for an anticantaloupe district! it could be cantaloupe-free by city edict. cantaloupers could be required to stand more than ten feet outside the doors of businesses.
    Remember our old buddy, Newton Marshall? He has completed his 24 hr. layover at McGrath and is on his way again. Unforturnately his GPS transponder isn't working so good and there is no current track on him. Could be frozen dog breath on his GPS antenna, I guess. Either that or he's got big trouble.
    Feel free to bash me for letting everyone know!
    Lady J, I saw that too, and I, too, thought "how ironic"...anyway, beyond that observation, something I don't quite understand...why DO people change user names? I mean, c'mon, it's not as thought the mentality or mindset of said individual(s) actually changes with each different username. I know mine wouldn't. I'd STILL think and sound like "me"...or am I missing something here...perhaps a multiple-personality disorder, or something along that line, maybe? I dunno, just never has made sense to me. I mean, in the first few submissions under a new user name ALL readers with at least 2 neurons firing can identify who it is...I mean, really, what am I missing in all that? Why th' heck bother with such child-like, simple-minded subterfuge? Just an absolute waste of time, in my honest opinion.
    Guess what? I've got a fe-VAH!!!
    So what the hail is it with Daylight Savings Time? Used to start in April, then it was late March, and now for my birthday (yes, it's on Pi Day...) I get to lose an hour of sleep? What, is it gonna start on Valentine's Day next year?
    And beatrice, looks like you won the "who will get pinked first" contest... did you reference former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, by any chance?
    X-D
  219. meggers (anonymous) says…
    Now Multi, what in tarnation does all of that have to do with the price of a loaf a bread these days?
  220. beatrice (anonymous) says…
    mor-cow, I got pinked because the board apparently needed a little color. Former senator Santorum was not directly involved, but he did make an appearance since my story ended with the line - "The Aristocrats!"
    At least I think it did.
    Either that, or it was the comment in which I described the cure for cancer. I can't seem to locate that one either, so it was one or the other.
  221. LadyJ (anonymous) says…
    The purpose of the blog is to get things of your chest so you feel better, right. I bey Multi feels better. And hey, that lady didn't honk today. Nay, that couldn't be, it was just a coincidence
  222. Katara (anonymous) says…
    Oh hey LadyJ! Since this is the blog to get things off our chests...
    I got the strangest PM last fall complaining about how dull the site was and how we (I have no idea why this person thought I would be interested) should have spiked the "players" with extra testosterone weeks before.
    Same person sent a friend of mine 2 rambling, pretty disjointed PMs with all sorts of theories about other "players" and if this person knew my friend in person, they would be more than happy to disclose all.
    And you all thought Irish was the one putting on an act...
  223. RoeDapple (anonymous) says…
  224. LadyJ (anonymous) says…
    Irish was putting on an act? Boy she was good. My ex was court certified psycho so I've seen some really weird stuff. Now there is this crazy girl that shows up in our yard or knocking on the door from time to time and she says some crazy stuff too, CIA conspiracies and stuff. Since we really don't know Irish personally, we really can't say one way or the other. Now my ex talked about the CIA a lot too, so if bloggers start talking about the CIA, FBI, or police conspiracies, we pretty much know they are definitely crazy.
  225. LadyJ (anonymous) says…
    Knew a girl that had a bumper sticker made that said "My FBI friend says your FBI friend doesn't exist"
There is nothing to prove that the mere presence of your blog IS NOT harmful to me. Who ives you or anyone else the right to randomly post blogs that have the potential of thrusting themselves into my own personal domain?
    Random blogging MUST be banned!!! This waste of air space is affecting other posters and may have the potential to cause occular cancer by too much blog reading. Not to mention the stress incurred when one is forced to read ideas or patterns of thinking that may be disagreeable to them.
    Give me the facts and figures!!! Show me how this is in any way beneficial to me. Explain how you are NOT damaging me by blogging! Then I may back down and let my high horse go free.
    When the blog was y. my last post was "Who moved my cheese?" Now the title is cheesy.
    I don't know if it is true, but most tales have some truth. My dad said that putting cheese on apple pie, delicious by the way, came from a myth. The myth was that the hot apple pie would melt ice cream and sour it. It probably started when someone overate pie a la mode and became sick.
    I have also heard that it may have started when ice cream was a rare commodity (WW I or II?) and cheese was easier to buy. This is one of those times that I miss informational blogs that are really:
    An ironic disappeardededed happened today. A user signed up as "ThomasNast" and attempted to discredit LJW. The original Thomas Nast is credited for proving that the pen is mightier than the sword; he is known for his icon creations of the republican elephant, democratic donkey, Uncle Sam, and Santa Claus. The original Thomas Nast did prove that the pen is mightier than the sword. The LJW blogger wannabe proved that LJW's sword was mightier than Thomasnast's libelous pen; he was summarily cut down and cast out.
    Since the purpose of the blog has now changed to a discussion of our favorite low budget movies I will promptly do the opposite.
    My favorite movie of all time is "The Christmas Story". Why? Because that was what Christmas was in the late 40's, 50's, and 60's - naive, innocent, and simple.
    Second, "Forrest Gump" . This movie stirs every possible emotion as you travel through Gump's life.
    Third, "Airplane". It is so stupid that you don't have to think at all. Pure relaxing entertainment.
  323. Pywacket (anonymous) says…
    Everybody needs to watch it at least once in their lifetime, so please see it and report your findings to us. That goes for all y'all who have not yet had the pleasure. In fact, you ought to gather at Roe's house, make some popcorn, and enjoy it as a group. Then everybody can post a mini-review and we can compare your findings.
Was in the company of a PI, law enforcement, and assorted other incongruous players in a very strange situation--we had carte blanche to search the concert hall--backstage--everywhere--before, during, & after the show. To no avail. Getting to hear the music live turned out to be the best aspect of those two nights.
