Name That Tune!
Growing up in the '50s and '60s, I was exposed to such a wide variety of music, from hokey hillbilly to the classics, country to hard rock, waltz to opera. Although I personally do not play any musical instrument and can't sing a note outside of the shower, many of these oldies have stayed with me over the years. Some of these tunes, although performed/written by artists who were respected then and now, were just plain silly, and meant to be. But sometimes you get to singing or humming them to yourself, knowing people may cross the street to avoid you or police officers with bullhorns will order you to come out with your hands raised if they hear you.....
So, with apologies and thanks to Ronda for somewhat plagiarizing her song blogs, here is what I would like from you.
A song title, the name of the performing artist and a link to a video performance if possible...
I will start it out with the one I woke up thinking about this morning.....
Roger Miller, 'Kansas City Star"..............

I been lookin' for a Model A coupe but none of my Buds will sell me one because they know the first thing I'm going to do with it is cut the frame in half at the firewall, so that I can add in about 18”, they know I wil throw away the original fenders and replace them with '32 units, that I will pitch those spindly 19” wires and replace them with 16” Daytons and that the '48 Lincoln V-12 that awaits somewhere in the back of one of the garages will be brought to life in my very own Hot Rod Lincoln.
Oh, yeah.

Imagine if you will, a nine-year-old boy who had just finished construction of his high-tech “transistorised” regenerative radio reciever.
Tuning the airwaves and getting the regen set he finds the first music he hears on his project and is transfixed.
This boy had saved his allowance for weeks to buy the parts for the radio and his Dad had cut the white pine and the plywood on which the breadboard chassis would be constructed and had taken him to the old McGee Radio to buy the parts.
To this day the boy may cry at the rememberance.
Or not.
The first music
“Wonderland By Night”
Bert Kaempfert, 1960.

Which led in later years, in another life; almost in another world to this; in which the boy can't quite decide if “Wonderland By Night is about Vienna or Moscow:

I worked at Hallmark one summer and worked in the ribbon converting department where ribbon was wound onto plastic spools. If a person was left-handed, you couldn't work in bows however as all the equipment as set up for a left handed person.
Six of 8 of our last presidents (well, actually including Obama, I believe), were left handed. John McCain was left handed as well. I'm going to write a blog about left-handedness sometime. Lots of interesting facts and myths about us left handed folks.

Roe,
I agree about adapting to a right-handed world. I never thought it would be worth the hassle to reverse the clickers on a computer mouse to make it left-handed and can only open a combination lock with my right hand. My older brother is also left-handed but caught a baseball and threw right-handed because left-handed gloves were hard to come by in western Kansas in the 50's and 60's. He writes and eats left handed however. Most items are made to be used with either hand. My brother and dad (who was right handed) hunted together and I'm sure shared guns so I guess my brother adapted to that as well. Soup ladles used to right handed and as well as most scissors. My third grade teacher told my parents the reason I was left handed was because I was copying my older brother, heaven forbid she would have considered that genetics might have played a role. :~)
