Lawrence Art Guild plans trade, movie night

Lawrence Art Guild members will gather Monday for “Movie Night, Materials Exchange and Artist Show and Tell.” Artists are welcome to bring any materials they would like to sell, trade or simply give away. The guild also will present the film “Robert Rauschenberg: MAN AT WORK.” One of the most influential American artists of this century, Rauschenberg’s art has encompassed all manner of experimentation and a vast array of media, including silk screening, printmaking and photography. Rauschenberg’s collaboration with choreographers, notably Merce Cunningham, John Cage and Trisha Brown, have greatly influenced contemporary dance and performance. The highlight of this program is Rauschenberg’s autobiographical work, the multi-paneled “The 1/4 Mile” or “2 Furlong Piece.” Seen for the first time in its entirety, this monumental work-in-progress exemplifies the originality and genius of an artist always ahead of his timeThe meeting will take place at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vt. A business meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., and the exchange begins at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.– Information provided by the Lawrence Art Guild
