School climate surveys open to parents and community members

The Lawrence school district’s annual school climate surveys are being conducted. The surveys allow parents and community members to give anonymous feedback about their school.

The surveys are pretty short, consisting of 10 multiple choice questions about the environment at the school. Here is a [link to an example][1]. Each school sends out links to the survey individually.

I checked with district officials, and there is no one place where a parent who has students in multiple schools can access all the surveys, but most schools include links to the surveys in their newsletters. Newsletters are posted on each school’s website, which can all be accessed via usd497.org.

Most of the questions let you pick between four choices — ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree — to statements such as: “Our school is welcoming to all parents, regardless of background (racial, ethnic, economic, etc.).” The district provides the survey questions, which are the same for everyone, but each school will be able to look at its results individually.
