The results of the most extensive of the Lawrence school district’s construction projects will be on display this Friday.

At more than $9.6 million in renovations and additions, the project at Sunset Hill Elementary had the highest price tag of the district’s 21 schools. To celebrate the project’s completion, Sunset Hill is hosting an open house on Friday at the school, 901 Schwarz Road.

The Sunset Hill project included the addition of several new classrooms, new music and art rooms and expansion of the school’s cafeteria and kitchen. Sunset Hill students have been holding classes in the former East Heights building this school year, and will begin classes in the new building next school year.

The Sunset Hill “Cultural Kaleidoscope” open house will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. The event will include refreshments, performances and a display of student art and writing. More information about the event is available on the Facebook event page.
