The public is invited as Lawrence youth take center stage this week to celebrate after-school programs. The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence is hosting its annual Lights On Talent Show this evening.

One dance squad from every Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence will take the stage to compete for a panel of judges. Each squad has created a three-minute routine to the theme of “One Hit Wonders.” Judges include professional choreographers, dance instructors and Kansas University Rock Chalk Dancers.

The talent show is part of a national event, Lights On Afterschool, launched in October 2000 to celebrate after-school programs and their role in the lives of children, families and communities.

The talent show will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School, 1400 Massachusetts St. The event is free and open to the public.
