The Jewish High Holidays kick off at sundown tonight, when Rosh Hashana – the Jewish New Year – begins.There are seven holidays between now and Oct. 5, according to Chabad.org, the Web site for the Jewish organization Chabad Lubavich. Those include Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which is Sept. 22.Locally, Rosh Hashana events include:¢ 10 a.m. service Thursday at the Burge Union, organized by the Chabad Jewish Community Center. The center also plans a service at 6:45 p.m. Friday and at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday. More information can be found at JewishKU.¢ The Lawrence Jewish Community Center will have services at 7:30 p.m. tonight and at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at its location, 917 Highland Drive. It also will have a 1 p.m. service at Burcham Park and an evening service at 7:30 p.m., back at the center.
