Consider the water lilies in the cool muck...

From Baker Wetlands today. Most critters had more sense than me. These lilies at least looked cool in spite of the 107F temp at the time. What would be the best critter to be on a day like today?

Best critter to be on a hot day? Dewfly. Self-evaporating, recondensing.

Actually, the best critter to be... newly independent.
A little while ago, I discovered I have Newjays. Glimpsed one outside my patio (well, patiette) window and went out to see how close I might be able to view it. Of course, it flew off immediately but then returned to a perch about a yard from me. Softer featured with a cry not yet edged in metal, it lingered for a bit and then made a labored flight to a nearby tree limb. Several bootstraps later, it and several siblings had climbed to about twice their initial height, before setting off again.

How much better off will we be when it is paved asphalt broiling in the man made global warming inferno?

    Scott,

Nice comparison of what is happening now with the 1930's- though I do think his attempt to link this year's weather pattern with global warming is weak.

I went this past Sunday to see Monet's Water Lilies. Words cannot describe how I felt when I saw the three panels together. It was beyond beautiful! This is the last weekend they will be there. If you haven't been, I highly recommend that you go.
