As a Catholic I have no problem with evolution. I really don't see what the problem. Science is how we study the planet, all that is on it, the universe, the stars.
How, why, what if?
Steven Hawking was a great fan of Star Trek and supplied the facts and numbers that you hear. He was a guest on the show. He and Data were in the HoloDeck playing poker with Newton and Einstein. Einstein made a statement based on his religion which was a mistake. Hawking won the poker game.
There was the scientist who discovered that light is bars after seeing a bumble bee, sorry I can't recall the details, but he was so disturbed that he had to be in therapy with Jung.
My God created the universe/multiverses and all contained within so my faith is not going to be shaken by science, but rather fortified.

blue: You're right, we don't need evolution. We also don't need Grimm's fairy tales, Moby Dick, or R. Crumb or Genesis. They are fun and motivating.
Imagery, narrative, stories, blue. I can't design a new water system with them. I can't use statements about missing links, piltdown man, or Genesis to do anything in this world at this time that is useful.
To the extent that viruses change...OK. But that is a much smaller version of evolution than species origination. Origin of man, etc.
Who cares?
Religious folks on both sides of the issue, that's who. So go see the discussion this Friday. See the straw men set up and knocked down by the brave and powerful biologists.

Write one that will settle the question of evolution once and for all.

Well Irish, as I have said for years, "What a truck driver doesn't know, he at least has an opinion on."
