A man fired his handgun by mistake early Thursday morning at a Lawrence apartment complex. Then, he called police to let them know.

Officers were dispatched just after 2:30 a.m. to the 1300 block of Crestline Drive, in the Meadowbrook Apartments complex, according to Officer Shawn Gross of the Lawrence Police Department. Police determined that the man had mistakenly fired the gun and wanted to notify police about the accidental discharge.

Nobody was hurt, Gross said. Also, nobody was arrested.

The man was inside his own apartment by himself when it happened, Gross said. The bullet did damage the man’s own window and struck a large tree outside.
