KU student arrested, allegedly threatened dorm neighbors with knife in dispute over noise

A University of Kansas student has been arrested for allegedly threatening her dorm neighbors with a knife, police say.

The woman went to a nearby room in KU’s Oswald Hall, 1620 Engel Road, Wednesday night to complain that the neighbors were making too much noise, KU Police Chief Chris Keary said. He said during the interaction she reportedly threatened the women making noise with a knife.

The victims and the suspect got into another argument Thursday night, and police responded, Keary said. That’s when the victims told police about being threatened with the knife the previous night.

No one was hurt in the confrontations, Keary said.

The student, 19, was booked into the jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, according to jail records. Charges against Wenli Yang were filed and she was scheduled to make her first appearance in Douglas County District Court Friday afternoon, according to court records.

It is almost finals week on the KU campus; Friday is “Stop Day,” and finals begin Monday.
