Police find spent casings but no one hurt after reports of gunshots near Hillcrest neighborhood

Numerous residents reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity of Seventh and Wisconsin streets Monday night, and police found spent casings there but no one who’d been hit.

Lawrence police were dispatched on those reports just before 9:50 p.m., Officer Derrick Smith said Tuesday in an email. Officers arrived to the area of the Eagles Lodge, 1803 W. Sixth St., and found multiple shell casings in the roadway along West Seventh Street, behind the lodge, Smith said.

“Many area residents heard the gunshots and called dispatch, but no suspects or victims were identified,” Smith said.

Smith said based on preliminary reports the gunfire, though nearby, did not appear to be associated with Eagles Lodge.
