This photo from the Kansas Wildlife, Parks & Tourism - Game Wardens Facebook page shows a car with an allegedly illegally killed deer in the trunk on Saturday, March 24, 2018, in Douglas County.

After seeing blood dripping from the trunk of a car and a rifle in the passenger compartment, a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy turned over an investigation to the appropriate law enforcement agency: a game warden.

About 3 a.m. Saturday, a Douglas County game warden got a call about the stop and went to the scene, according to a post on the Kansas Wildlife, Parks & Tourism Game Wardens Facebook page. The source of the blood, they discovered, was a “freshly killed” deer on a tarp in the car’s trunk, according to the post. There was a .22 caliber rifle inside the car.

The game warden booked the driver into jail on suspicion of multiple charges, including taking a deer in closed season.

The arrestee was a 37-year-old Kansas City, Kan., resident, according to corresponding jail records. As of late Monday afternoon, charges against that person did not appear in a search of Douglas County District Court records.
