Pizza robbers get away after stealing pie from delivery driver at North Lawrence park

A man delivered a pizza to a North Lawrence park early Wednesday morning, but instead of getting paid got hit and had the pizza grabbed from him, he told police.

The driver sped away and returned to Domino’s Pizza at 832 Iowa Street, where he contacted police shortly before 3:30 a.m., Sgt. Amy Rhoads of the Lawrence Police Department said, in an email response to inquiry from the Journal-World.

The driver told police he was delivering the pizza to some people at Lyons Park, 700 Lyon St., Rhoads said. When he arrived in the parking lot he saw a group of males and asked them if they ordered pizza. Two of them approached the driver’s vehicle and took the pizza. When the driver told them how much they owed, one of the males hit him.

Rhoads said Wednesday afternoon that the department’s investigation into the incident was ongoing.
