Reported car-bashing spree on Louisiana Street leads to arrest

Police arrested a man who they suspect smashed out the windows of at least eight vehicles on Louisiana Street overnight.

Officers were dispatched about 9:10 p.m. Monday to the 2400 block of Louisiana Street, where multiple callers reported seeing a man outside smashing car windows with a baseball bat, according to Officer Derrick Smith of the Lawrence Police Department. When officers arrived at the scene they found at least eight vehicles with smashed windows, Smith said, but they searched and didn’t locate the suspect there.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday, officers found the suspect in the 3100 block of Ousdahl Road and arrested him on suspicion of criminal damage to a total of 10 vehicles, Smith said. Smith said police have forwarded the case to the DA’s office to consider charges.
