Shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday, Lawrence police were dispatched to the 600 block of Illinois Street on a report of a “partially clothed” woman walking in the street, Officer Derrick Smith said in a media email. He said officers found a vehicle that had crashed into a fence in someone’s front yard, and after locating the partially clothed woman, determined she was the person who had been driving it.

As to why the driver had taken off her clothes, she removed them because she had vomited on herself, Smith said. He said the woman was subsequently tested and arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence.

Smith didn’t specify whether the woman took off her clothes before or after crashing the car.

According to corresponding jail records, the arrested driver was a 21-year-old Lawrence resident.
