Keeping tabs on continuing investigations

As new stories are reported every day it’s easy to lose sight of ongoing investigations, so I thought I’d give you all a couple of quick updates regarding recent incidents authorities are still examining.

And although there is no new information regarding the two following incidents, I think it’s important to remember that police and firefighters are still working on the cases.

First, Lawrence Police Sgt. Amy Rhoads said Tuesday morning the department has no new information regarding a September homicide.

On Sept. 16, police found Lenny Dwayne Morrison dead in the 400 block of Ohio Street. They also found a woman with ‘significant injuries’ who was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later released.

Police determined Morrison’s death was a homicide.

As of Tuesday, no arrests in the Douglas County Jail booking logs correspond with the Lawrence Police Department incident report number linked to the homicide call.

Second, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Division Chief Eve Tolefree said the investigation into a Johnson Avenue house fire is still on hold.

The fire was reported in the home at 331 Johnson Ave. on Oct 11 and a single woman was removed from the building and flown to an area hospital for treatment.

The woman’s identity has not yet been released.

At the scene, Tolefree said the woman was likely suffering from smoke inhalation.

Last week Tolefree said the woman remained in critical but stable condition in the hospital and the investigation was paused until firefighters could speak with her.

Tuesday morning, Tolefree said investigators still have not been able to interview the woman and it was not immediately clear when they would have a chance to speak with her.

I’ll keep following along as the investigations progress.
