It seems restaurant inspectors branched outside of Lawrence a bit more than normal for the most recent batch of visits checking for health code violations.

For the first half of May — and a bit into the second half (sorry, I was out of town) — a quarter of the restaurants listed are located in Baldwin City.

On the list this time are a few sandwich shops, a sushi place and a sorority house, to name a few.

Twice each month, I take a look at inspection results and list every place either listed out of compliance or with 10 or more code violations. Full reports are available online at agriculture.ks.gov.

There you can find details about specific violations, which can vary greatly. Noncritical citations include unlabeled products, improperly stored cleaning materials, minor plumbing issues and more. Critical violations include cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods, insect and rodent issues, unclean food preparation areas and more.

Some violations may be corrected during the inspection, while others take longer to fix and require follow-up inspections.

All businesses, even those listed out of compliance, met the basic requirements to safely remain open, unless otherwise noted.

With this regular report I try to provide basic information about food inspections in Douglas County. But due to the sheer volume of inspections, it’s difficult to offer detailed information about each establishment.

Here are Douglas County restaurant inspection results for the first half of May:

• Cibo Sano Italian Grille, 4821 W. 6th St., last had an expired license inspection on May 17 and 10 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• R Bar & Patio, 610 Florida St., last had an expired license inspection on May 17 and 13 violations were found. The establishment is currently listed as in compliance.

• Joy Garden, 717 E. 8th St., Baldwin City, last had a regular inspection on May 13 and 13 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Raven’s Table, 520 North High St., Baldwin City, last had a regular inspection on May 13 and 3 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Moose’s Backwoods BBQ, 522 Ames St., Baldwin City, last had a regular inspection on May 11 and 12 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Santa Fe Market, 522 Ames St., Baldwin City, last had a regular inspection on May 11 and 15 violations were found. The establishment is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Circle K Store & Subway, 1030 North 3rd St., last had a regular inspection on May 10 and 12 violations were found. The establishment is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Ingredient, 947 Massachusetts St., last had a follow-up inspection on May 9 and 5 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, 1600 Oxford Road, last had a regular inspection on May 3 and 10 violations were found. The establishment is currently listed as in compliance.

• Cold Stone Creamery, 647 Massachusetts St., last had a regular inspection on May 3 and 10 violations were found. The establishment is currently listed as out of compliance.

• Yokohama Sushi Downtown, 811 New Hampshire St., last had a reopening inspection on May 3 and two violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as in compliance.

• Pita Pit, 1011 Massachusetts St., last had a follow-up inspection on May 2 and 10 violations were found. The restaurant is currently listed as out of compliance.
