Multiple accidents on Tuesday around the intersection of Sixth Street and Gateway Drive, police say

If you’re heading over to Sonic to snag some fast food or over to Genesis Health Clubs to work out (or perhaps both), it may behoove you to be a bit careful around the intersection of Sixth Street and Gateway Drive.

Police say there were two vehicle accidents at that intersection on Tuesday and Lawrence Police Department activity logs indicate a possible third.

Little information is available regarding the first accident, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Laurie Powell.

The accident took place right around 8:45 a.m., Powell said. However, the police report is not yet completed so it was not immediately clear what happened or whether anybody was injured, she said.

According to incident logs, two officers responded to the scene of the accident.

A possible second accident was reported at 1:39 p.m., according to incident logs. Two officers responded to the scene in the 3100 block of West Sixth Street.

The logs indicate that the second accident did not result in any injuries, although Powell did not immediately respond to an inquiry asking for more information to clarify.

Yet another accident happened at 1:05 p.m., Powell said.

A Toyota, westbound on Sixth, tried to turn left onto Gateway Drive, but failed to yield to an eastbound Nissan, Powell said. The Nissan hit the Toyota’s back tire. No injuries were reported, she said.

Two officers responded to the accident, according to incident logs.

Further information was not immediately available.
