Pete "Spare Tire" DeGraaf

In a story that's hit the internet like a bombshell (but not the LJ World), Kansas Rep Pete DeGraaf from Mulvane compared separate "abortion only" insurance to having a "spare tire on a car".
Considering that one in four women in the US will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime I guess it's perfectly OK for the "free market" to cash in on these assaults and their unintended consequences. At the same time the far right social conservatives can piously put their hands together and look skyward and say they had nothing to do with it. One more salvo in the war on women. Welcome to Kansas.

Talk about stupid. This was about the recently passed law that insurance companies could not offer abortion coverage in their regular policies and then he makes that thoughtless remark about getting coverage to plan for getting sexually assaulted. What did he think the coverage was for in the first place. Idiots. Morons. Fools.

Hmm. Cars and health insurance policies.

Don't most cars come equipped from the factory with "spare tires"? No need to purchase them separately. I wonder why car manufacturers do that...

I can't speak for anyone else, but I wouldn't drive anywhere without a spare tire. I sure wouldn't want the legislature and governor to take mine from the trunk just to tell me I could purchase separately what I formerly had. Then again, perhaps they know what is best for car owners.

You might consider having a spare the prudent thing to do. A necessity, even. You know, before that nail "assaults" your tire.

If I have a flat I'll just console myself with all the $$ I saved by deleting that spare from the purchase price.

Hey Governor! Do you want the battery, too? No problem, I'll just push start the car.
