Much Ado About Nothin’
Walmart's newest addition to Lawrence sure is nice but I have one problem.....it's too small! The City really blew it caving in to the fringe of Lawrence who most likely rent or possibly own their own homes on the east or Old West side of town.
But what could be done now that all the years and years of lawsuits and lost sales taxes are behind us? I think they should be allowed to expand if there is any room for them too expand. The opposition's argument was really much ado about nothing, seriously.
I have a hunch the SLT when completed will be the same, much ado about nothing. After all, originally it was going to be a 4-lane highway that turned into a Super 2-lane road to nowhere.
A Letter To The City
A Letter To The City of Manhattan, KansasDear City Fathers,Congratulations for receiving the national Bio-Defense Lab. In 10 years, when your population is greater than Lawrence’s, please do not look to Lawrence as an example to follow unless you want to see how a great community turned into a dismal community. Our city is dying and your city is thriving and will be thriving even more in the years to come. Just remember, growth is good for the tax base. Growth pays. Being anti-growth and restrictive does not pay and leads to high property taxes, high sales taxes, increased cost of living, lack of jobs due to excessive requirements for incentive seeking industry, and lack of new retail due to excessively restrictive land standards. Keep up the good work encouraging business expansion. Lawrence doesn’t have a clue. Most here are waiting for a new phoenix to rise from the ashes of our failed City policies. Please remember, it is better for a community to be business friendly. Sincerely,Mr. Big PruneLawrence, KansasThe Gilligan’s island on the prairie
NOW is the time to buy an American car.
NOW is the time to buy an American car. The dealers WANT your business, BAD. I know from personal experience. Holy cow do they want your money. Like I said, NOW is the time to buy.
Community Cost/Benefit Analysis Suggestion
Since Lawrence has had study after study done for this, that, and the other thing, I have a suggestion:Why not do a Cost/Benefit Analysis performed in regards to the University of Kansas and its impact on the community as a whole? Of course to remain impartial and unbiased, the people doing the study could not be the Policy Research Institute at KU or be associated with the university in any way.I am curious as to what kind of impact, positive and negative, the University has on our city. It doesn't take rocket science that the fast food eateries and bars benefit tremendously from the students, but what other businesses reap the benefits when compared to the permanent residents? Also, what costs, if any, from property taxes and sales taxes do the permanent residents have to pickup in order to provide services for the students? This could be a study I could support, especially since KU does not have to pay any property taxes and the students single handedly passed the T bus free ride sales tax. I wonder how much these non-permanent residents and the university spend and how much do they contribute in relation to the expenses paid for fire, medical, police, transit, streets, street maintenance, schools, water, sewer, and gas ?

Blog Draft Entries
On occasion I'll have draft entries get posted without my doing. I am wondering what is up with that? It'll show up as a draft but then later on it'll post. I always make sure I check "Save this as a draft instead of publishing" but days later I'll notice it mysteriously appears on the site. Has anyone else had this happen? I've had a few post, especially during the election that I hadn't finished or edited before posting.I wonder if this will get removed?
Fisher Price doll says, “Islam is the light.”
I was at Target last week looking for a Christmas gift for one of my children. I came across a doll from Fisher Price. It says, "Mama," and other things - it says "Islam is the light." The attached news story says it also says "Satan is king" but I didn't hear it say it. As of Monday of this week, Target still had the doll on their shelf. I don't know about Walmart yet. Has anyone else seen any other indoctrination type toys lately during the Christmas holiday season?
I-70 West Exit to Re-open
It'll have a new roundabout. I didn't realize the housing and K-Mart Distribution was SO close to the exit. It looks pretty nice.
If an apple a day keeps the doctor away…
What would happen if you ate 30 apples in one sitting? Would you be in perfect health for a month?Someone try this and get back to me.
Where is this 70% that voted for new sales taxes?
In a so-called educated community such as Lawrence, how in the world did the T Bus win 70% of the vote, seriously? Was it because we were gonna get bent over regardless of the outcome? Let's see, it was pass the sales tax attaching the paratransit to it, or the City would jack up our property taxes even more. Is this why it passed with 70% in favor of new sales taxes vs. 30% in favor of no new taxes?
