BigPrune, isn't McCain just going to continue the socialist polices of the left? Didn't he just vote for $700 Billion in new government spending? There's no difference between the two on the vast majority of the issues.

For indiemike,
What if McCain were a trainer for an organization that commits voter fraud and whose campaign donated $800,000 to that organization?
What if McCain was the attorney who represented this organization that fought to let low income people obtain loans they couldn't afford?
But I digress.
Who in their right mind would want to be President now? I think if McCain bows out, it's okay. The American people think the President is to blame for everything even though the corrupt Democrats in Congress started this boondoggle. The Republicans have the next Ronald Reagan in waiting - that person being Sarah Palin.
The Democrats will have the House, the Senate and the Presidency. We are in for a long 4 years of hell.
Locally, Lawrence has been in a recession for 7 years now. So goes Lawrence, so goes the rest of the country? If you think things are screwed up locally, just wait for the Socialism to happen on a national scale.
kansas778, I KNOW what you're saying. I read Paulson is an expert on the Great Depression. I wish McCain would've voted against this bailout at least on the first go around. He could've said he was fighting for the American people and at the time, just couldn't vote for the bailout. The American people would've been eating out of his hands, and I think he'd be up by double digits. Hindsight is 20/20. If Obama wins, I think he'll let the bailout work its course and protect his buddies in Congress who are responsible for this debacle. Obama himself was a big proponent of subprime loans.
Too bad McCain can't turn back the clock. I actually heard an Obama campaign spokesperson today blaming McCain for the bailout - like Obama didn't vote for it or something. Gosh, they must think Americans are complete and utter idiots.

You must be confused. In America, there is a two party system and both are actually rather close to the middle ideologically because of that.
It's okay though, someone will walk you back to the retirement home and sit with you until you gather your thoughts.

Socialism and democracy are apples and oranges…two different things. Most of the democratic countries in the world are socialist to some degree. And, oddly, the last great bastions of totalitarianism are becoming capitalist. The United States has a complex system which needs to be tweaked every once in a while.

I have come to the conclusion that it is extremely unlikely McCain can win this election because 3 things are working against him.
(1) Money. Obama has 3 times as much money as McCain. He just bought a 30 minute block of advertising on some of the major networks. Money wins elections.
(2) President Bush. While McCain has disagreed with Bush on numerous occasions, Obama has been more successful with his guilt by association (4 more years) than has McCain with the Ayers junk. Obama has been successful at convincing the simple minded to not vote based on the individual, but based on the tag next to their name. Not only does this tactic help against voting for McCain, it persuades people to vote for Obama by ignoring his inexperience (including economic) and ability to be Commander-in-Chief because he has a (D) next to his name. Smoke and mirrors.
(3) The Economic Crisis. This couldn't have come at a worse time for McCain. Even though it was the Dems back in 99 who encouraged the lending institutions to give out loans to minority groups who lacked the capacity to repay them, and it was Bush in 2002 and McCain later who sought greater oversight of Freddie and Fannie; ignorant people always blame whoever is in the executive branch for every problem in this country, even though the economy started tanking in 2006 when the Dems took control of Congress. (Just remember when Obama is elected, you reap what you sow).
