Why do so many millionaires want a new library paid by us?
Why do so many millionaires want a new library paid for by us?
Yes, I checked the "vote yes for the library" website, and found it interesting the steering committee is made up of quite a few millionaires. This was after driving around town and seeing all the signs. It made me wonder who is backing this $18,000,000 expansion? (That's $900 per square foot for an extra 20,000 square feet of space) - THAT would also have to be the most expensive building ever constructed in Lawrence's history - if anyone can give me a more expensive building or expansion, I'm all ears.
Then it made me wonder, why aren't all these millionaires paying for the new library? Why must its cost be put on the backs of the "little people?"
If this so-called regional attraction's expense can be justified, how is someone from say, St. Joe or Wichita supposed to return a book they check out? Can someone from St. Joe or Wichita even check out a book? Also, who are all the groups that got turned down from having a meeting because Lawrence didn't have enough meeting space? I'd like to see the names produced.
In these tough economic times, shouldn't the haves be taking care of the have nots? It's a progressive way of thinking isn't it? Why don't the millionaires that back the library put up (the money) or shut up and leave the rest of us alone?
work smarter, make the time, it’s just business
After much internet sleuthing, I found some interesting sayings credited to Satan himself. Maybe you’ve heard these uttered by a bad boss sometime in your life. At least we now know who may have said them first.
1 favorite: Don’t work harder, work smarter
……In other words, your hard work isn’t helping my bottom line enough and I think you’re an idiot…of course it’s your poor time management skills (NOT!)
2 favorite: If you can’t find the time, make the time.
…... In other words, if that 14 hour work day isn’t getting my desired results, work a couple of more hours for me, then maybe I’ll appreciate you…..a little.
3 favorite: It’s not personal, it’s just business.
……In other words, I just bent you over and there is nothing you can legally do about it, sucker. (thanks for letting me take advantage of your trust).
Why didn’t you make it go away Mr. President?
The United States government raised a 2,700 ton ballistic missile carrying Soviet submarine (possibly completely intact) that was over 300 feet long and from a depth of 16,500 feet under the Pacific Ocean in 1974, over 1,500 miles from the nearest land, but today our government is powerless when it comes to stopping an oil leak 5,000 ft under the ocean? The United States Navy was able to splice into Soviet deep sea communication cables with high tech submarines in the 1960's, even hijacking some of their lines to spread misinformation, but today our government is incapable of splicing into a leaking oil line?

One of the greatest technological achievements since putting a man on the moon and at the secrecy level of the Manhattan project with the assistance of Howard Hughes as a cover, makes for a very interesting story. http://www.projectjennifer.at/
It's quite obvious the Obama Administration did not do enough. Why does he get a pass on the worst environmental disaster in our nation's history? He has the resources to make the problem go away, yet he did not/has not utilized them. Why not?
How has Obama’s Stimulus Helped You?
I'm looking for examples of how Obama's stimulus has personally helped you.
Did the stimulus help save your job? Has it helped you buy a house? Has it helped you out of debt? Has it helped you buy a car recently? Has it helped increase your income? etc., etc., etc.
Please, give me some examples with personal positive outcomes.
Where is Fox News on THIS story?
I understand why other news media outlets don't report anything negative against our golf playing president while our men in uniform are being killed in combat and since the administration controls the media as according to Anita Dunn, Obama's Communications Director, but where is Fox News on THIS story? Is Obama Poised to Cede US Sovereignty this December?
If Obama were honorable
If Obama were honorable, he will turn down the Nobel Prize since he doesn't deserve it.
If he accepts this prize for doing absolutely nothing, it will show his true character.
Why is Roman Catholicism attacked so much?
Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said: If I were not a Catholic and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hates. My reason for doing this would be that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, he must still be hated as he was when he was on earth in the flesh. If you would find Christ today, then find the Church that does not get along with the world.
Look for the Church that is hated by the world as Christ was hated by the world. Look for the Church which is accused of being behind the times as our Lord was accused of being ignorant and never having learned. Look for the Church which men sneer at as socially inferior as they sneered at our Lord because he came from Nazareth. Look for the Church which is accused of having a devil as our Lord was accused of being possessed by Beelzebub, the prince of devils. Look for the Church which, in seasons of bigotry, men say must be destroyed in the name of God as men crucified Christ and thought they had done a service to God. Look for the Church which the world rejects because it claims it is infallible as Pilate rejected Christ because he called himself the Truth. Look for the Church which is rejected by the world as our Lord was rejected by men.
Look for the Church which amid the confusion of conflicting opinions its members love as they love Christ and respect its voice as the very voice of its founder, and the suspicion will grow that if the Church is unpopular with the spirit of the world then it is unworldly, and if it is unworldly it is other-worldly. Since it is other-worldly it is infinitely loved and infinitely hated as was Christ himself. But only that which is divine can be infinitely hated and infinitely loved. Therefore the Church is divine. (slightly edited for readability)
Much Ado About Nothin’
Walmart's newest addition to Lawrence sure is nice but I have one problem.....it's too small! The City really blew it caving in to the fringe of Lawrence who most likely rent or possibly own their own homes on the east or Old West side of town.
But what could be done now that all the years and years of lawsuits and lost sales taxes are behind us? I think they should be allowed to expand if there is any room for them too expand. The opposition's argument was really much ado about nothing, seriously.
I have a hunch the SLT when completed will be the same, much ado about nothing. After all, originally it was going to be a 4-lane highway that turned into a Super 2-lane road to nowhere.
A Letter To The City
A Letter To The City of Manhattan, KansasDear City Fathers,Congratulations for receiving the national Bio-Defense Lab. In 10 years, when your population is greater than Lawrence’s, please do not look to Lawrence as an example to follow unless you want to see how a great community turned into a dismal community. Our city is dying and your city is thriving and will be thriving even more in the years to come. Just remember, growth is good for the tax base. Growth pays. Being anti-growth and restrictive does not pay and leads to high property taxes, high sales taxes, increased cost of living, lack of jobs due to excessive requirements for incentive seeking industry, and lack of new retail due to excessively restrictive land standards. Keep up the good work encouraging business expansion. Lawrence doesn’t have a clue. Most here are waiting for a new phoenix to rise from the ashes of our failed City policies. Please remember, it is better for a community to be business friendly. Sincerely,Mr. Big PruneLawrence, KansasThe Gilligan’s island on the prairie
What next, hyperinflation?
Foreclosures are projected to increase in the coming year as some people in adjustable rate mortgages won't be able to refinance. This will drive down the prices of homes and this recent bailout will only be a bandaid. In other words, expect more bailout happening. If Congress made it attractive to buy homes - letting the consumer depreciate the cost of a second home or investment home over 5 years, , the mortgages would secure. Since this banking bailout without any oversight, given to some banks that have been bilking the American consumer with high rate credit cards - they offer teaser rates only to jack up the interest rate at will, would it have been better if the government gave the citizens those billions to pay off their loans since the consumers will be paying back the banking bailout through taxation? There are only so many dollars that can be printed and with all the promises by the upcoming administration to inject money into the economy, one of these days the sh*t is going to hit the fan, because the dollar will be worthless. Interest rates are at all time lows but from what I've read, banks aren't lending any money. Who knows what these bailed out banks are doing with our money since they weren't required to disclose what they've been doing. Here's a thought, give some greedy bastards a blank check but you don't get to know what they spend it on. The only thing we haven't experienced yet, is hyperinflation. Hyperinflation typically hits overnight, and stores cannot keep up with the inflating prices. Do you think we'll experience hyperinflation within the next 3 years?
