Go Fly A Kite

Advertisement The kite was tucked at the back of the garage, forgotten. Spring cleaning has its surprises.

Today the sky is crystal clear with a slight breeze--great for outdoor work but perfect for flying a kite. So we do. Forget the flu, economy, and cluttered shed.

The red, white and blue delta wing is up in a minute. Tethered to a post, it bounces around with its tail wagging.

And, as we watch, the stress of the day floats away.

Kite flying is serious business and one needs a serious kind to really have a good time. has a bunch to pick from that will last and used to be an American industry. Sadly, the days of the hand made American kite are all but gone. They're made in China machine....not an inch of wood on 'em.....

I've lost many an afternoon on a hillside quilt spread wine, cheese, bread chasing a kite in circles or feeling it recede into the blue distance its pull belying its shrinking image presence increasing with distance

Mary Poppins! (head slap) why didn't I think of that--you two make me jealous:) There you go, David, you could put a mailbox on your Monday quiz--a unique one. I have a few pictures.....

Be jealous, David, be very jealous.....are we seeing your family on May 9th at our standard place and time? ;) Linda really should come to, but she is always out flying kites, taking pictures of birds and mailboxes.........

Now that's just weird! As soon as I saw the picture, my mind started singing the song from Mary Poppins, "Let's go fly a kite...." But of course, Ronda said it first. (Gosh, I'm so jealous of her sometimes :-)

Still, what a wonderfully wicked movie that was, defying every convention to celebrate creativity and life. So yes, indeed, let's go fly a kite!

Kite flying is peaceful and relaxing. Wish I would have had the chance to do the same on such a beautiful day. Some of our favorite memories as a family are of kite flying on the beaches at Treasure Island, Florida at Christmas and New Years.....

You may tell me to take a hike, go fly a kite anytime, Linda. Just don't tell me to go jump in a swimming skills are not as keen as my land skills.....

Now, would you put this kite in video format with music "Let's go fly a kite up to the highest height" expectations have risen along with the kite.....and sometimes they float away on hot air... ;)
