A friend fed his channels but wouldn't let anybody catch them out. Man, they got big. Then one day they started dying. By the dozen. He sent a couple off to be autopsied and the verdict was swift and sure: heart disease and old age. Bottom line: stock channels when they're as long as a dollar bill and catch and fry'em before they get to 1 1/2 lbs. Granted, then you don't get pets. His favorite was Old Half Lip, which tilted the scales at 18 lbs. Half Lip is legendary because he (she) pulled a rod and reel and the lawn chair it was sitting in off the dock. No problem for Lip, he/she drug the whole rigamarole anround the pond until they finally snagged the line and retrieved all. Lip's still out there. Broke a kid's line off at the bank just the other day.

Twin Lakes retirement community in Wichita has a pond/lake that is accessible from the N. parking lot.. The monster i saw was at least 4ft. in length.
Pocahontas Iowa in the city park. Cats strike as fast as you can bait your hook. Perfect fryers too, about a foot-and-a-half in length.

According to Lawrence legend, wasn't a guy fishing in the Kaw pulled in and drowned by a catfish once up a time?
