What it was, was football

I am saddened by the loss of Andy Griffith. Of the nine million times I have watched the wisdom of Andy. Everything from Romeo and Juliet with the Wakefields and Carters to out thinkin the Darlins, which weren't tough at all. The conversation with Floyd out in front of the barber shop about the weather. "No Floyd. Calvin Coolidge didn't say that". Gomer doing favors for the man that saved his life. Talking dogs. Escape convicts. I'm sure many of us can relate. Farewell Andy. And Gomer, get that gun outta your mouth.

George Lindsay, aka Goober passed on, too, recently. They all mostly gone now. Floyd, Otis, Barney, Aunt Bea, Howard Morris as Ernest T. Bass, Denver Pyle as Briscoe Darling, Emmett, Helen Crump...

We still gots Opie & Gomer & Thelma Lou.

Andy bore a strong resemblance to my dad--the older they got, the more alike they looked. That always made him seem like family. My dad passed on five years ago. Now, America has lost one of its most beloved dads--or "Paw"s, as Opie would say.

I think those of us who grew up absorbing the wit, wisdom, and values of The Andy Griffith Show and feeling the warmth of his portrayal of a loving father were the better for it. He will be missed.
